Archived How many of the problems at your store are corp related, or ETL/STL related?

Ours used to be payroll now it's attendance and people quitting left and right. Yet they somehow expect us to get everything done and more.

The complete lack of payroll was definitely the biggest struggle for us. We couldn't get anything done ever, and all the ETL's were putting in an extra 15-20 hours a week, working on the sales floor because we literally did not have anybody to get workloads done.
This. Is it cheaper to hire & train more ETLs (when the current ones quit from being overworked) vs paying hourly TMs to do the work?

No, it's not. A lot of time, effort, and money go into hiring a new ETL. They go to "business college" and train at other stores for 6 weeks. That's a lot of time and money put into training someone--a whole lot more than hiring, training, and scheduling an hourly team member.
New ETL saved her hotel receipt to the desktop. $3000+

Pfft thats 1 weeks worth of Qmos.

At our store it's a combo of etls and corporate. Our stl is new but a go getter isn't afraid to go in and do it herself. Our etls are lazy spend more times in their phones and gossiping. The new hires are just a waste of space. One I wonder how he remembers to breathe. The good ones are leaving in droves.

Fighting between the ETLs. Each one is sure their area is the hardest and they will tell anyone who will listen. Cutting hours at the end of the month is poor leadership, period. Because these nitwits have the woe is me motto, whenever we are slow they will keep all team members and send them to their areas to do "projects" What they should be doing is managing the payroll. If your sales are down 10% at the beginning of the month you better be sending people home during those slow periods. Usually just an hour here and there will work.If you don't and you will have to make up those hours at the end of the month unless your sales spike. You maximize payroll by allowing the team members who actually work hard stay if needed and send the benchwarmers home. The are usually the ones who want to leave early anyway. Conversely if your sales are rocking they should be adding extra hours to help with the added workload. Its all about being on top of what is going on with sales daily instead of trying to play catch up at the end of the month. If you have additional flex hours at the end of the month you did not then you failed and you are a poor manager, period.

STL since he's trying to follow corp payroll. Old STL would go over on payroll.

Our store has excellent TMs TLs and pretty good ETLs. Corporate is a lot of the source of most problems. They are stingy with hours. They are stingy with equipment. Their IT absolutely is the pits - some POGs won't print, computers are dog slow, and half the time " X is not available now, please try again later." And I am sick and tired of label strips not coming until two weeks after a POG is set, or they are on time but don't match the spacing of the product on the shelf.
We keep getting label strips for other stores. Sometimes we get luck and the store that go ours overnights to us. One we sent the label strips we got to their rightful store and they sent us what they thought were ours. That was not the case and ending up with a second wrong batch.

I wish we could print our own fricking label strips.

YES. Single labels are a pain in the ass during ad takedown. Plus, the strips look better anyways if everything is spaced correctly.

I hate when they just don't send the label strips for aisles such as the damn printer ink or anything in MMB.

There's really no reason we shouldn't have the ability to do a label strip.
I been staying that for a few years. At least we are able print out regular labels. I have a friend who works for another retailer and they can't print out shelf labels for price tags. Everything has to come from HQ.

I know what you mean, a friend at another store was changed to have the market TM come in at 8. And they're usually made to help work the 50 baskets of stray left over from the night before.. They may get a chance to cull after all of that, then in between power hour and 4x4.. Br works out pulls and they don't check dates or rotate.. A steritech disaster waiting to happen

Dont even get me started on the stupid 4x4 walk. Tuesday I have to receive and push out 150-200 gallons of milk, receive and stage C+S, meet with multiple vendors, complete the order, in addition to cleaning, working huddle, morning pulls, backstocking my own pulls, SDA, TPCs, deep cull and other various projects. Nobody has time for a 4x4 walk. Thankfully my store has the opening Salesfloor spend their first 4 hours doing 4x4s so they do dry market. Even then just the freezers, coolers and pfresh take a while for the 4x4 if you are actually doing it how it is supposed to be done and not half assing it.

Lately on C+S days my morning consists of
1. SDA and QMOS items
2. Cull through Meat and Bakery and find expired items, QMOS those
3. Sort out QMOS in backroom and then work out all the pulls.
4. Cull in Produce
4. Huddle and then Break.
5. Backstock all my morning pulls/ LOD Walk
6. PUSH C+S
7. Squeeze in the order at the end of my shift
8. Go home

I literally spend 3 or so hours pushing C+S on those days. It is getting VERY annoying, especially on Fridays when we ALSO have Freshness Friday, Milk Delivery, and an Order that needs to be done

The latest problem has been a ton of people quitting. Just in the last week we have had 3 backroom TMs leave, 1 who closed all the time, and another who closed here and there. I think our FLOW team has lost at least 5-10 people within the last month too.

That, along with Market having to help out other workcenters. Almost every single time I open I have to backstock ALL of the morning pulls, on rare occasion I have also pulled all of them too. Working the morning market autofills which I did today has been a more common occurence the last week or so. I used to grab carts for the front end for a period of a few weeks but havent had to do that lately.

My closers have repeatedly told me they have to do other things like Backroom, Electronics backup, pushing out CAFS, answering calls all over the store, Cashiering. Yet I FEEL like my leadership team doesnt have a great opinion of Market even though we work super hard and always help out other workcenters but get no help in return. They wonder why they find expired yogurt or deli meat in pfresh. Well when the heck are we supposed to do a deep cull in that when we are always told to do other things and make sure the entire zone is done by one person

My Leadership team also has changed. Got a new STL, ETL-HR, SRTL-Salesfloor, SRTL-Backroom, and new Pharmacy Leader all in the span of a month or so because of either promotions or moving on to another job outside Target. Flow TL also changed hands a month or two ago.

I think the payroll cuts and doing away with the specialists has changed the basic nature of our business. Those at the top still want us to be the cool hip place where people are willing to pay more for good service and nifty mdse. however they have cut hours and flooded the stores with too much cheap shoddy mdse. They still think they can run the stores like a Dollar General but get results like a high end store.
The ETLs are in shock I think. At my store they did their royal processions (walks) then hung out in the hr office until lunch. Around lunchtime they used channel six to decide what to eat. The rest of the day was a party in the training room with their Logan's or whatever.
Now they often have to push pulls, zone, work reshop and even do back ups. Some of them still do nothing as much as possible. They are starting to squabble amongst themselves. Many of them are quitting. Working was not what they signed up for. lol
