Does this include the crime labs? I know that target has crime labs that police can use if they need to. Or is an investigation center different from a crime lab?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

*GOES SUPER SAIYAN AND DESTROYS EVERYTHING IN SIGHT IN A BLIND RAGE*

Fuck. I really wanted to get on at the IC.

We had an old TPS guy get signed off to go to an IC last year. But the process took so long, and he was on the bench so long, he ended up getting on at a police department before the transfer ever got a chance to go through.

This will make those jobs even more rare.

This. Is. So. Terrible.

A) For stores that are APTL only. Good @#*!ing luck catching people. When I was APTL only I used IC almost everyday. In fact, on days that I didn't need them, I would sometimes call them just to see what was up. I would even call these people on Holidays and say thank you, #$*@ some of them I would call friends.

B) I hate to see people that have a certain skill lose their job. Some might argue that "looking at cameras and recorded video" is easy. However, these people can dig into Target Gift Cards, Credit Cards, Internals quicker then anyone in the field.

C) Internals for all effected markets will drop noticeably. As work is dumped to other IC's, things will start to be missed. I would bet my years salary on most stores in these districts will have one or two less internals a year.

I can only hope that Target will realize the mistake after a year and bring some people back. However, that hasn't been the case with most things. It's just another way of Target taking the AP role and slashing it to bits. Target is constantly needing to tighten the belt and the first department they always look at is ours. They got rid of APS, then they moved to getting rid of ETL-AP, then made new TPS qualification standards, and now starting to cut the little help we get. SOME STORES DON'T EVEN HAVE AP. I know of two low-volume stores that "need to hire a APTL" but just continually deny applicants because it's cheaper to keep a guy off the books.

Well @#$* you Target. Don't worry IC, I'll let a guy walk out with a 50 inch for you. I got you bro.

/end rant.

Was thinking of finishing my degree with a forensics lean to get there. So much for that....not that anyone at my store had been willing to help me figure out where to start.

What even is an Investigation Center...?

ICs offer investigative support to stores that lack sufficient AP staff. They're especially helpful to stores that only have an APL.

Well... at least myself and 17.6 thousand Canadian TMs will have company in the unemployment line, then.

A bit of numbers to throw at you guys. There are currently 12 Investigation Centers, after the closures we will be down to 4. One IC will support each region.

This is not good news for AP results. It won't affect my external results, because I don't partner with the IC for that (@Wizard89 Personally I don't use them when floor walking, but I know you aren't/weren't the only one who did), but pretty much everything else will be hurt. Internal results are going to plummet. I get 99% of my actionable internal tips from the IC. Unless the actual # of employees at each IC goes way up, the 4 remaining IC's are going to be swamped with requests and work. I've already had leaders in my store tell me that occasionally when they call the IC they are told that there aren't any techs available to help them, just wait until we only have 1/3rd the resources!

There is a chance they could be brought back. Target AP has experienced a lot of back and forth changes just since I've been in the field of AP (2008). Taking away TPS, giving them back, then taking them away again. The introduction of the APL position, then changing many APL's back to APTL's. The removal of the Investigation Specialist position. Etc etc etc. Target doesn't know what they want their loss prevention department to be. Half the time I get the feeling there are some higher ups who don't feel Target should even have LP/AP, as loss prevention and apprehending shoplifters doesn't fit with Target's brand and clean image. Try telling that to boosters who load up on Tide and baby formula and portable electronics. Target's existing AP is already stretched so thin we can barely keep up. Maybe if Target corporate asks nicely, these career criminals will stop bothering our stores?

Over the last few years, the number of IC positions and roles have steadily declined. Then Target condensed the roles of upper management from APBP's to Investigators and did away with the IS position. It's clear the direction the company is headed in regards to AP. Plus, lets be honest, the IC's (since stretched so thin last 2-3 years) have become worthless.. late reporting, not following up/resolving issues, lack of communication, ect. is all the doing of so few resources to cover such an exponential amount of work. The only thing the company has going for itself now is the reporting of knowledgeable TPS'.. ETL-AP's are focused on LOD shifts, and APS' are rare to come by.

My prediction next 2-3 years: Target will outsource it's AP positions to 3rd party private security companies and put them in charge of staffing/resolving theft. It's very possible.

its already started. some high risk stores have a company staffed with off duty cops patrolling the parking lot. they've probably been planning the transition for awhile.
