I've been at target for about 5 months, and I am still loving it. I use my real name on here because I have nothing to hide and have nothing but good things to say about target. Loving it in electronics.

Okay, it's just that you wind up getting judged for the company you keep and some of us aren't that well liked by Spot.
But we're really glad to have on board.

Welcome to The Break Room.

Plus giving your real name and some identifying info to a bunch of strangers on the internet is always a risky course of action.

What I'll say about electronics is that some guests have the misperception we know all about the products. I was helping a guest yesterday by getting a game out if the lockup case. She asks ... Is it a fun game to play? I have no idea. She says ... Well, I don't want to buy it if it isn't a good game.

I wanted to say ... Look lady, Target neither bought me a game system to test out the games at home nor gives me time to play them here. So I can't speculate about whether your kid will like it or not.

Meanwhile, a line of people has formed behind her to ask me more questions. Aaaah!

Pretty sure he's trolling. I doubt Czech is a last name, and John is way too common of a name for that to be an identifying factor.

What's funny is that I have nothing to hide either. But, I'd never use my real name on any website. I mean, who does? Weird.

Happens in hardlines all the time. The same product made by two different companies and a guest will ask me which one is better. Most of the time it is something I've never tried myself, so how am I supposed to know? I always suggest they Google on-line reviews from people who have tried it. That usually keeps them busy for a couple of hours.

You can do some research just so you have something to say.
Yatzee over at The Escapist http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ does some very funny and honest game reviews.
Though telling a guest that if the game was a person it couldn't pour shit out of a boot might not work so well.
The escapist does have other reviewers and info that would come in handy.
http://www.cnet.com/ is a great source for info on equipment.
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/ is the best for movies.

You're helpful, but honestly, I'm not doing that off the clock unless for my own enjoyment (I've looked up reviews on Rotten Tomatoes before). I could do it on the fly when a guest asks, but that is a time issue.

If Target was serious about being an electronics/entertainment destination, there would be a better system for training.

Also, use the mydevice to your advantage. Look the game up on the IGN app on the my device, check out the ratings and reviews.

You'd be surprised at some of the names out there. And let's hold off on using the T word unless he starts to post maliciously. Sounds like he's just having an AMAZING Target experience.

Best buy actually has internet star ratings on their price tags. Going there after shopping at target with some friends, half of our price tags weren't there (good thing there was a price scanner nearby) while best buy was clean, had much better looking price tags (none were missing either), and there were more employees available to answer questions. We are definitely not a good place to go to buy electronics unless you work here to get the 10% discount.

Unless you are a girl and the geeks treat you like a pair of books that talks...I hate buying anything other than videos at best buy. The geeks try to talk me into cutesy crap when I want specs...even if I'm with hubby.

I loved it when they tried to do that to my wife.
She was short and had a really big pair of books so they would go straight to the treating her like an idiot mode.
Since she had been on the bleeding edge of tech since the beginning and always knew exactly what she wanted (often already having ordered it and just coming in to pick it up)
she had a bad habit of ripping out their egos and stomping on them.

Let's just say the geeks at the Sprint kiosk at the mall hide when they see me coming...tried to seek me a cute pink phone last year...rawr.

Big pair of books. LOL.

I've gone to Best Buy just to get some RAM... they tried to sell me an entire computer, because it would be "easier" than trying to install some more memory into my PC.

Pretty sure installing RAM's a lot easier than migrating my files to a new PC.

Thing is this. If you take pride in your job, you wouldn't mind doing a little bit of research off the clock. Not only would it help with guest relations, but because of improved knowledge and improved guest relations, your attachment rate will go up. Remember, when you sound genuine about something, people are more likely to listen to what you have to say.

You may want to change your username. Using your real name and putting your profession on the internet is a very bad idea. Computer savvy people with bad intentions could use those two things to gain all sorts of personal info, especially if those things are on Facebook. In the past few minutes of very easy research I learned the location of where someone with your same name who has been working at Target for 5 months lives. I'm not a dangerous person, but there are several people on the web who are and could find this info easily with no hacking involved. Again, you maight want to change your username, just for your own safety, even if you are proud to work at Target and don't care if people know who you are.
