Archived LODs and back-up cashiers.

At my store they have said that the add'l cashier buttons aren't being used anymore to indicate that more cashiers are needed for the next scheduling cycle/for next year.

Does anyone know for sure if the buttons really matter or if they are only to call for more back-up?

The call button usage on the salesfloor is monitored and recorded, but I'm not sure about the "additional cashiers needed" button on the registers themselves.
