I inquired about a cosmetic specialist that recently open at my store. My etl said that I would have to interview for that position to be
Considered. I am currently a regular ol sftm in hardlines. My question is what type of questions will be asked in the interveiw...

I didn't know there were still specialist positions in the stores much less that you would have to interview for them.
What kind of store do you work at? (if you don't mind me asking)

A regular target... we are very high as far as sales volume though.. I'm not sure y I have to interview for it though.

The specialist position doesn't exist anymore since 2009. I don't know what your ETL is talking about.

It's all semantics. I'm sure it's called Cosmetic Team Member now, instead of "Cosmetic Specialist." Most of the old specialist positions kept the higher paygrade, no matter what they're called.

Comestics brand tm is the correct name. I don't know pay because we haven't had one in 6 months. Maybe .25 cents more? If you do it well & learn everything, it can lead to bigger things at spot.

Cool, I didn't know there was an actual position. We have one softlines person who is split between jewelery/accessories and cosmetics.
Since she winds up doing register backup half the time cosmetics looks good maybe one day out of the week.

Yeah, definitely just the ETL use to the term "specialist". The positions have been removed for a long time now and the workload placed onto regular TM positions. The funny thing is that HQ still sends out the occasional piece of literature(workbench, transition manuals and such) that still have the term in them. I point it out to my TL and we both laugh.

I laugh as well....transition packets say to CC the Signing Specialist and Electronics Specialist....I talked to my STL....who should I give this too...we don't have this person anymore and we chuckle lol

I know for various positions in our store we use the interview guide for TLs since the STL has such high expectations of certain postions:brand attendant tms , GSA , photo asst, FSA, etc

You have to interview because it's a brand TM position. Brand TMs are slightly higher-up than regular sales floor TMs.

Positions for PA, GSA, Cosmetics specialist, Electronics, Entertainment, Photo... are not official interviews, just talking to department ETL and/or TLs, and they ask you questions somewhat like for the TL positions.

For Cosmetics specialist, at my district we have two types of TMs. One is a brand Cos. Specialist, in a paygrade N07, which is $1 more, and a couple of regular cosmetics TMs who are paid $.25 more, and who usually close at cosmetics or HBA, or do a mid.

Technically for paygrade change interviews, you should follow TM interview guides. (2 interviews) This would occur if someone is moving from Cashier to GSA, Sales Floor to Electronics, SFTM to Presentation etc.

Not sure your info is 100%, anytime that you change paygrade an interview has to happen, at my store they already know if they want you or not so you bs for a couple minutes and then they'll fill it out and pretend that they actually did it, but, the paperwork still has to be filled out.

Some stores probably don't follow best practice on this... I started as Electronics, put in a two week to go to college, came back home after a year and a half, reapplied, was hired as a backroom TM at a higher paygrade with no interview, then promoted later to Signing TM at a higher paygrade, with no interview.

Hmmm, may just be at my store, but, they make sure that they fill out the guide, even if your interview was more of a "what did you do last weekend?" sort of thing.

Everyone at my store has had interviews for GSA, cosmetics brand, PA, etc - all non-TL positions.

it's beats being trapped in box.

This is true. I've had very few cashier shifts during my time at spot but I really wasn't a fan. The only thing that makes me feel better is the fact I'll be making the same as I was when GSA, but I wont have to clean up any "code browns" in the bathroom.

See how many bottles of polish remover & bags of cotton you requisiton in a yr's time.
