This is getting a little ridiculous. First, the big retailers always do each other in hours for Black Friday. Then it turned Black Thanksgiving. Now stores are going to have 24/7 operating hours for the weekend before till Christmas Eve.

Granted the early morning hours will probably be slow and will give more time zoning the store, and overnight pay would be great. But think of the payroll and sales needed to staff these hours.

Toys ‘R’ Us is the latest retailer to say it will open its doors 24/7 leading up to Christmas.

It plans to be open around-the-clock — 87 straight hours — from 6 a.m. on Dec. 21 to 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

“With only eight shopping days remaining until Christmas, we are offering customers extended, uninterrupted time in stores, providing them the opportunity to shop whenever is most convenient for them — whether early in the morning or late at night,” Troy Rice, executive vice president of stores and services, said.

Kohl’s said it plans to stay open for 100 straight hours.

Toys ‘R’ Us’ store in New York City’s Times Square has been open 24/7 since Dec. 1. The Wayne, N.J.-based retailer has 877 stores, including about 30 in the Philadelphia market.

Give it a year or so and Target will jump on the band wagon.

I just don't see the need for a store to stay open between 12am to 6am to only get a small percentage of sales.

Doesn't it cost a lot to keep the store open all night? Even with just a reduced staff? Right now, we are open until midnight, and there is almost NO ONE in the store after around 10 pm or so! Even on Black Friday super early in the morning, there weren't very many people in our store.

Great, so now kids can get even more cheap plastic crap that they won't play with in a month.

I'm bitter about Christmas this year.
