I really don't understand why Target stays open an hour later during the holidays. My store usually closes at 11PM during the week. We very rarely get guests from 11PM to 12AM during this time. Why does Target keep the store open later?

Spot does this extra hour around this time every year to drive late sales for guests.
It used start from Black Friday to dec 23th.

For my store it's usually slow when we first start doing it but then when more people start realizing we're open later we start getting more in during that hour.

...then when we go back to normal hours, we get disgruntled guests trying to enter the store at 11:15.

At my store we stay dead between 9-11 up until the week before Christmas. That's usually when we get parents shopping for their kids gifts.

Take advantage of it now, as it's an extra hour to get a better zone and leave no abandon for the openers. By the week before x-mas, it will begin to pick up in sales.

The only bad thing about staying open late is that sometimes my stores didn't clock out to 1am on the hardest hit nights during the Holidays.

But usually you have only a few people in the store that extra hour. So just keep zoning. Toys, electronics, seasonal, kids, market and storage are usually the heaviest hit.

Sometimes if its slow enough and the zone is caught up, the LOD will dismiss a couple TMs early.

Cant wait to have that long line on Xmas eve at 10pm since we close that late now. All the people that are terrible at planning coming in last minute and bitching us out for not having item X or item Y

It's the same people that were in Market the night before Thanksgiving and were bitching at us for being out of stuff that they just realized they needed the next day!

Our store closes at 11 for holiday hours (10 on sundays) and we had this awkward rush of people checking out at 9:58 last night because they all thought we were closing at 10. I didn't bother to correct that theory unless they asked about it lol. But after that we had no guests in the store for the remainder of the night.

we haven't started the hour later....I know we were supposed to. Not sure why we haven't but I am okay with it. We are one of the few stores in our district that stays open until 11 regularly.

Sounds like yet another communication failure.

they haven't even posted it on the entrance/exit doors for guests....I personally think our district is going to heck in a handbasket....and communication is a big thing. But, it could also be that because we have been staying open for that extra hour since Easter 2 years ago they are cutting us (and our payroll) a break.

The calendars on our doors don't indicate that we'll be opened an hour later this year.

Most of the people who come in at night think we close at 10 (and they tend to guess somewhere between 7 and 9 on Sundays) to begin with. It was always a ghost town with the extra hour last year (only on sundays).

our holiday hours calendar is literally blank....nothing there, except the words "holiday hours"

We started the 11 closing (10 on Sundays) about 1.5 yrs ago. We were told we weren't staying over any later until just before Christmas because we were an extended hrs store.

My store has had extended hours all year long for 4 or 5 years now. We extend the hours further for the holidays, to midnight weekdays and 11pm Sundays, and its always slow at first, but people linger more now than they did the first couple years. I honestly don't think we're doing much more in sales... the late guests are just taking longer to shop instead of rushing to the checkout at the last minute.

I JUST FOUND OUT I ONLY CLOSE ONE DAY.

It's gonna be awesome saying at 11:30 "This is Oath, heading out for the night." And everyone has to stay until 12:30 I'm so happy :D

Our holiday hours com 12/21 to 12/23 will be 7am to midnight. 12/24 will be 7am to 10pm.

I like closing but I can only imagine getting off at 1 am and starting work at 7.

Yeah. That's the problem with these extended hours...the 8 hours in between shifts idea gets tossed out the window. I have 7 1/2 hours between tonight and tomorrow. And they can't figure out why I'm not thrilled.

Believe it or not, the extra hour is actually more for TMs than for guests.

Meh, if they wanna do something for me, they should start closing earlier all the time. When I was younger, everything was closed by 7 on Sundays, except Wal Mart. And there aren't many reasons people need to shop til 11pm. I saw Home Depot's holiday schedule on their doors and felt so jealous. They're opening later and closing earlier.

It's not for the TMs. It's for Target so they can have us there for an extra hour so we can try to get the store back into shape. At the end of the day, my life doesn't depend on the zone, so that extra hour certainly isn't for me!
