I would just laugh in her face.

We have gotten quite a few people trying to price match and stack it with cartwheel, but that's about it for price match abuse.

Target's website does say that a person can price match and use cartwheel.

You've misread it. If you're using a target coupon and/or cartwheel and price matching then you're an idiot. You're wasting your coupons.

What we do is:

We scan the target coupons + cartwheel, then if the price ie still more than the competitors price we lower it to their price, resulting in the same price as if you didn't use cartwheel or target coupons.

Manufacturer coupons are the only thing that come after the price match.

This is outlined here: https://corporate.target.com/about/shopping-experience/shop-with-confidence#q5387

EDIT: That'll teach me to start writing a response and then go afk before finishing :p

I'm not disputing the correct process. i'm acknowledging that the website is worded in such a way that it would confuse people who aren't familiar with it. Pretty much every other store that price matches has a much more clear and less poorly worded price match policies. Ironically, those stores also have better price match policies.

Agreed. Our policies are misleading and it puts TM's and guests in uncomfortable situations

Oh god, the sears glitch.

We had a guy come in the day it happened near closing time asking for it. I was on lunch, so guest services called LOD, who was ETL-AP, who promptly told the guy that he wasn't price matching it, period.

Then, the day after, when it has been all over the internet and long after Sears took the posting down, we had a pair of idiots come to guest services with two 3dsxls that they wanted to price match. I walked up, saw the DS's, looked the guy dead on the eye and told him that I wasn't price matching the sears typo.

His eyes got wide, then he said, "you haven't even seen it yet, it doesn't say Sears".

"59.99, right?"
"Yeah"
"No, not happening"
"But she said we could"

At which point I sighed and called the LOD, which was SRTL electronics, and had to explain to her about the glitch. Thankfully, she backed me up after I explained the whole thing to her, but she really had given approval for the price match. I told her that if she wanted me to walk then and there, I'd honor it.

They spent ten minutes looking up stuff, trying to convince me, including an jpg from imgur.

Retail just reinforces the knowledge that people are stupid.

I had a lady literally throw a fit like a child when I went to grab the iPad for her Amazon price match. She came in with grainy screen shots of all of the things in her cart showing that each item was 1 cent. I got the whole "WELL THE TARGET IN (next town over) LET ME DO IT!" Needless to say, she didn't get what she wanted.

I wish he was still alive. I would have somehow gotten him to make an appearance at the store I work at and say this line to anyone that attempted to try this price match bullshit.

My problem I had was a 2ds for 79$ or so Wal-Mart did as a one day deal. Lady calls my store asking if I will price match it. I assume it's some sort of sscam from the price. I look on the Wal-Mart website and can't find it, tell the guest she can't because I can't even find it. She compalins, then I ffinally find it. I tell her I can't price match a one day deal, and if I could it's out of stock so I can't do it for that reason either. Says she'll go to Wal-Mart like I'm going to care. I tell her to enjoy her drive as the closest one is 15 minutes away in good traffic.

Also, I love explaining the Amazon attachment concept to people :rolleyes:

Ok. Got it. But just in case, tell me again because I wasn't listening.

Lol. Ok just for my sanity 's sake: so if I had someone bring up say, an ipad and wanted to price match it to our own site. Also it's on cartwheel and she has a coupon for 10%off entire purchase. Would I scan the cartwheel and coupon first? Then if it's not at the site's price, I then change the price to match the site?

If it's a target coupon, yes! That's perfect.

If it's a manufacturer, you do cartwheel. Then lower it to ad match price if it's not already lower. Then apply manufacturer coupons after everything else has been done.

My store throws all the rules out when it comes to guest service. People can get away with anything. People can still return Halloween costumes at my store. And if someone has reached there limit of returns without a receipt the guest service team member just overrides it. And my store was dumb enough to price match a PS4 for 89 dollars thanks to amazon. This would of never happened at my old store.

At my store nothing like that happens. It's always fun to tell them no, then they tell me that <insert other target store> did it for them. Then go there you jackass...

Unfortunately, that comes down to how your stl, DTL and your group folks interpret the vibe and being bold.

We've been told by district to do, "whatever it takes to make the guest happy", which apparently includes throwing best practice out the window.

When I started as GSTL, I rejected returns and had a fairly strict interpretation of the coupon policy, until my ETLs began telling me to let it slide. Which is why my store runs an average of around 9k returns during the week, and 12ish on the weekends. At this point, I just override pretty much everything, except our known hba scammers.

Had a lady come in a week ago with a faded receipt and wanting us to honor that price for the Roku. Like, this thing was so faded you couldn't see the date. We had a GSA working at the service desk and she told the lady she couldn't honor that price without a rain check. So this lady proceeds to demand that she honor the price and whips out her phone and starts recording and dictating into her phone what's going on saying that we're "refusing to get a manager". So I get a hold of the LOD and warn him that this lady is throwing a fit and filming. Next thing I knew, the STL, ETL-AP, and three other ETLs come up to the service desk and attempt to tell her she can't film, etc. She won't have it so SHE calls the cops and they show up and basically tell her she's stupid, she can't film with her phone, and she needs to GTFO before we trespass her.

Earlier that day the cops had a foot chase with a guy using fraudulent checks in our parking lot.

Fun day.

She was still there an HOUR after closing? Your management is kinder that I ever was. I once had a family still shopping 20 minutes after we closed. I informed them they had 3 minutes to get up front and after that the register would be closed and they would be buying nothing. The parents then declared that since they came into the store before it closed (five minutes before, I might add) they had the RIGHT to stay until they picked up everything.

I calmly informed them that what they were doing at that point was trespassing, and if they didn't get up to the front immediately I would be happy to call the police and have them escorted out for that offense. They didn't believe me until I pulled out my cell phone and started dialing, at which point they almost ran up to the last register open. I didn't put up with that crap - we want to go home too.

Oh yeah my store is way to lax on this my favorite moment was closing Christmas Eve and still having guests on the store 30 min after close refusing to leave when I informed the LOD they reminded me to provide great guest service until all our guests left the building...I swear this happens this year I'm walking out.

I had some guest today call the store back to talk to the LOD because I did not honor his attempt at TV fraud. They told him the same thing. Also getting called some prime names because I wont hold the cartwheel toy of the day.

An LOD stood up to someone wanting to price match? That only happens at my store when HR or AP is the LOD.

we have lots. many people who don't understand price match work guest service. i printed out best practice to make sure our guest service team was trained. our team still sucks.

Repeat after me, the element 40 inch tv's are not sale at spot for 119.00, today. Please go to Wally world next door. No price match will be done because it is a different model from ours. Their tv is a 720p & spot is 1080p. Now, go away, please.
yep that was 3 calls for the lod at electronics. real fun day

Yeah i checked the model numbers on the Element deal Wal-Mart had, and the models didnt match up, ending any chance for a price match. The wiiU caused some issues but mostly just a lot of calls if we had it in stock. Our issue is mainly the coupons

I did my 1st one the other day. Real positive experience, TM was all for helping me get it at the electronics boat. I Want to give a helpful high scoring survey, but my receipt invitation ended over 72 hours ago. Any tips on how to praise & credit her performance?

Vibe card or Guest Experience card.

I see a few issues as far as Price matching with Cartwheel goes. Anyone who can shed some light?

First, tm can scan Cartwheel, but they will have to hit total to see the discounted price.
Tm has to ring price-match item up separately, to make sure Cartwheel is discounting for the item you're price matching.
Tm will only see a discounted price AFTER tax in a Cartwheel sale.
If you pull out a calculator, and determine that the pre-tax after-Cartwheel price of the item is still higher than a competitor's price... *breath*
What do you do now? do you price change to the competitor's price?
- Cartwheel will still take off from that new amount (Why have a policy then?)
Do you take off Cartwheel and price change to the competitor's price?
- Cartwheel doesn't come off with a 'void line' . you have to 'void everything' and begin the sale again.
Do explain any of these variable to guests when going through all these motions?

Guests will always want all discounts to stack, the more unreasonable, the better. Cartwheel usually has coupons that put our price at the exact same sale price as our online price or our competitor's. Like a lot of the time, its the same sale, but we make that price available for Cartwheel shoppers. To Cartwheel and to price-match together I feel is a double dip that should be prevented.

The solution is to ring up the items being pricematched separately (not as in separate from each other, but separate from the non-price-match items, and just never ever scan cartwheel on a transaction that includes a price match.
