Just wondering if any other stores have crazy price match stories....

A few days ago this lady came to our store 15min before close and demanded we change the price of the xbox one from the 500 to 80 based off of her walmart receipt that just said xbox for 80....she claimed it was a price match to amazon and yelled at everyone that came an talked to her. The etl ap kicked her out almost an hour after close she threatened to call corporate on us but we havnt heard anything yet

I would just laugh in her face.

We have gotten quite a few people trying to price match and stack it with cartwheel, but that's about it for price match abuse.

Didn't some online "GREAT DEALS" guy tell people they should do that?
And of course since it's on the net it must be true.

We had a guy come in today who wanted to price match a Playstation 4 from Amazon that was $89 (on Amazon). My GSTL came to GS and told him that they would look it up, but he kept getting angry about it because he had a copy of it in his hands. It was kind of hilarious because I mean, if it's that cheap on Amazon, why would you not just buy it off of Amazon?

Some lady and her kid tried to price match the Mario Wii U bundle that's normally $299.99 for $59.99 based on that Sears glitch, then screamed her head off at me and the GSTL when we denied it. The ETL-AP was LOD that night and personally came up to Guest Service to inform the lady that what she was doing is fraud. She backed down after that and scurried out of there like a mouse with its tail caught.

These people know what they are doing and are trying to "get away" with it. Anyone knows a price like that isn't correct even for a sale price.

She was still there an HOUR after closing? Your management is kinder that I ever was. I once had a family still shopping 20 minutes after we closed. I informed them they had 3 minutes to get up front and after that the register would be closed and they would be buying nothing. The parents then declared that since they came into the store before it closed (five minutes before, I might add) they had the RIGHT to stay until they picked up everything.

I calmly informed them that what they were doing at that point was trespassing, and if they didn't get up to the front immediately I would be happy to call the police and have them escorted out for that offense. They didn't believe me until I pulled out my cell phone and started dialing, at which point they almost ran up to the last register open. I didn't put up with that crap - we want to go home too.

We had a guy yelling at us to price match the bogus listing. He called corporate on us and they said there was nothing they could do. When we refused, he called the cops! Lol. They came in and said something to him and walked back out. He left soon after.

At my store, the guest service Team Members will price match basically whatever they would like, most times without verifying it. It's super fantastic. When guests try and argue with me about price match, I actually have a copy I printed out and I keep at the service desk, but if a guest is trying to price match for a like 10 dollars and less and they decided to sign up for a redcard, Ill price match it to basically whatever, within reason.

Had so many guests try and price match the Rachael Ray cookware today... My brain was throbbing 30 minutes into my shift.

I had a guy hell at me the other night because I wouldn't price match frys.com. I ran through the list of .coms we do price match with (including Amazon) and he just wouldn't listen. He kept going on and on about how he couldn't believe Target wouldn't price match an online retailer when "everyone else does" and how many sales do we see walk out the door. I told him none, because people like our price match policy. He said he was going to walk out the door. I said I understood. He then stared at me and asked me if I was actually willing to lose the sale. I pointed out that it was corporate's policy on who they do and do not price match. He said that he hears that all the time, but didnt think that was a valid excuse and walked into the store.

Right...if every other place will price match, why are you in my store yelling at me?
I really wanted to know what movie he wanted to price match, because I am certain between Walmart, Target, and Amazon he could have gotten it just as cheaply if he would have thought about it for two seconds.
And if you were going to walk out the door, why in the hell would you walk into the store?

No price matches on the one day ads because it's a percent off, called corporate to confirm. Definitely no cartwheel or target coupons after price match as well.
Also no price match if the item is out of stock at the online site.

I had a couple of phone calls yesterday and a couple people in the store that I refused. One had a screen shot of a "Target" ad that she insisted I honor. It didn't pull up on our iPad or my phone. She wasn't happy. I didn't laugh until she left.

Target's website does say that a person can price match and use cartwheel.

Not really. The truth is that Cartwheel can not be combined with a price match because if the Target price - Cartwheel savings is higher than the matched price we will lower to the matched price, but not subtract the additional percentage for Cartwheel. If the Target price - Cartwheel savings is lower than the matched price than they will get the Target price. They can not match the price and then get the Cartwheel savings in addition.

  • Target and Cartwheel coupons: Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price.
  • Combining both Target, Cartwheel and manufacturer coupons: the Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupons have been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price. Once the price match is made the manufacturer coupon will be applied.

Can I use a coupon when price matching?
You can use coupons when price matching per Target's normal coupon policy. When you present a coupon(s), follow these steps:

  • Manufacturer coupons: manufacturer coupons will be applied after the price match is made.
  • Target and Cartwheel℠ coupons: Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price.
  • Combining both Target, Cartwheel and manufacturer coupons: the Target and Cartwheel coupon will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor's price. Once the price match is made, the manufacturer coupon will be applied.
Reminder: we accept one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item unless either coupon prohibits it. Target does not ad match a competitor's coupon-required offers. For details, view our Store Coupon Policy.

You've misread it. If you're using a target coupon and/or cartwheel and price matching then you're an idiot. You're wasting your coupons.

What we do is:

We scan the target coupons + cartwheel, then if the price ie still more than the competitors price we lower it to their price, resulting in the same price as if you didn't use cartwheel or target coupons.

Manufacturer coupons are the only thing that come after the price match.

This is outlined here: https://corporate.target.com/about/shopping-experience/shop-with-confidence#q5387

EDIT: That'll teach me to start writing a response and then go afk before finishing :p

I'm not disputing the correct process. i'm acknowledging that the website is worded in such a way that it would confuse people who aren't familiar with it. Pretty much every other store that price matches has a much more clear and less poorly worded price match policies. Ironically, those stores also have better price match policies.
