Archived Promotion before 90 days are up?

Hello fellow team members!

Started in softlines a little less than a month ago and my ability to quickly fold shirts and finger space is already growing rapidly 🙂
My question is my ETL approached me this week to see if I would be interested in the recently opened Jewelry Brand TM position. What is the difference between this and normal SL TM? And what is the policy about promotions in the first 90 days? She said she was checking with HR to see if my hours would work for the position since I have a full time job (M-F 8-5) and just took Target as a part-time money maker.
Also when I got to work yesterday the LOD sent me to take the Trainer Training so I guess I am a trainer now? I find that a little scary since I still wear a New Team Member name tag!

Its just a little more pay. No additional authority. More duties. Jewelry Brand will be in charge of stocking, presentation, and keeping the Jewelry area looking brand. Its the same duties as the old Jewelry Specialist position, but without the extra pay and authority.

You usually have to be out of your 90 days before being considered for a promotion. But strange things have happened.

Congratulations, things can move pretty quick in retail.
In a year or so you'll look around and half the people working with you will be brand new (hell, at the rate Spots going it'll be 75%).

If you've been there for almost a month, they should've gotten you a proper nametag by now!

I don't reccomend it, I'm good friends with our jewelry specialist, she is very good at her job, when they actually let her do it. Every day she gets called by the TL/ETL to help in softlines with like, GM Pulls, Softlines Pulls, Adjacency's, etc. And they only schedule her like 5 hour shifts, she can never get her work done and they get mad at her for it.

It does seem to be partially the case for sure. I think it is partially the case that my fellow softlines members set the bar pretty low, so anyone with a half decent work ethic is able to really shine. If you aren't trying clothes on at the fitting room during your shift or taking three hours to zone active...well, you're pretty much the star.


And I agree about the nametag! I expected it to be a couple days...but no one from my orientation group has one yet.

This is just blatantly false. I wish promotions were based on merit. Often times they are based purely on the amount of ETL ass the person can kiss and how much they "vibe" with other team members by acting like obnoxious dbags.

I was training people before my 90 days were up (somehow they forgot to put me in the trainer class but oh well. I'm an unofficial trainer) and if they had any open promotions I would probably be getting asked if I was interested. Anytime I walk in if I'm not working at least half my team will be like "oh man I wish you were working". I guess I act enough like I've had the kool-aid to impress some people.

That's what I was told at my store, and even though I've barely been there two weeks i've been told that they will let me know as soon as an ETL position opens up. I guess I'm vibing okay =]
