This. Some stores may have GSAs who are cash office trained, and this is best practice. Other stores use other TMs.
Another tidbit on top of this is that the GSTL/GSA that is closing the night before is not allowed to work cash office the next morning, for obvious reasons.
The GSTL/GSA will at night remove all the money (as well as coupons, checks and any media slips) from the registers and replace them with new funds for the next day as explained above. Then the LOD goes in with the GSTL/GSA to verify the bags and make sure the safe matches the opening count from the cash office team member (with any adjustments).
Coming from a bigger store that has a lot of registers and has to wait for all guests to leave before removing ANYTHING from the registers, closing can be very tedious. But in some ways, after dealing with loud guests all day, the complete silence of the store is amazing.
