Hey guys. Literally just made an account on here to ask this question. I can't seem to get genuine answers from others. I've been at Target for a little over 5 years. I've done flow, POG, pricing, gsa, cashier, jewelry/cosmetics brand, softlines, hardlines. You get the idea. I am currently the PPTL and its just okay for me. I feel as if my training wasn't all that great but that's expected with Target. We just recently got a new STL and he has helped me with my metrics and expectations and goals. He just recently expressed his desire to promote me to a senior. Something I may have wanted a couple of years ago. I would still be the pricing and presentation team lead on top of being a senior. I would have to have LOD shifts durog the week and of course my set day off during the week. I guess my biggest concern is how to balance being over POG while also being an LOD? There's an automatic 16-24 hours a week where I won't be directly working with my team. How do you make up for those lost hours? You have to make yourself "free and available" as an LOD so that you can be quickly responsive to other TM concerns or guest concerns so therefore I can't just be with my team setting aisles during my LOD shift.. Help.

I wouldn't want to do it with that position but that's just me. There's a couple SrPPTLs on this site that balance it somehow though.

Talk to him about what? He made the comment that everyone balances and its just an adjustment. We have 2 seniors. One is a salesfloor SrTl and the other is Flow SrTl. I feel like it's easier for the sales floor senior because she can do a little sales floor work while being lod and watching over the floor.

Yeah I just don't see how. Maybe I'm jsuy over that place and don't really have the desire to work like a dog for them

I'm fairly unqualified to actually answer any of your questions, but I'll regurgitate what my recently Sr. GSTL was telling me the other day. Keep in mind, your mileage will vary since as a GSTL he has us GSA's to hold down the fort as "leadership" over the front lanes while he's doing his LOD duties.

He regrets it. There are a lot of added stress and responsibility that comes with the position, and you are expected to go above and beyond what was expected of you before because now you are part of "upper management". The extra pay is nice, but he is starting to feel the effects of the stress. I'm not sure what your workload/duties are as PPTL, but I'm sure that you will be expected to complete all of your regular work in your 40 hours while also having to make room for LOD shifts, so that might be difficult.

Thank you. I talked to my boyfriend and his like do it because he just thinking more money. He doesn't even know what being a PPTL consists of to begin with. Its hard to talk target with people that don't work there lol

Yea that already sounds bad lol. I would do it if I was fairly sure it would lead to an ETL offer though.

I don't have a degree. Skipped college and went straight to the slave trade known as retail.

And I know the pay isn't spectacular. There are a couple team members on my POG team of like 5 that make more than me.

That's me too. I have a DTL who has promoted SrTLs who are still in school to ETLs, so I would only do it in that case lol.

I feel like ETLs have signed their life over to Target. Always there. Always tired. Always grouchy. Always in a frenzy. It just doesn't seem like a life to me.

Every store is different, but yeah, I've seen that before. ETLs at my store have it made though.

Yeah I just feel like even when their not at work their still being bothered by texts or emails and when they come back to work after being off it doesn't seem like they even had a day off. To me work is not my life. My life is my lif

How does THAT happen???
I guess just from working there longer than me. Which I get. But I'm a leader and their not. If they were capable of capable of being a leader then they should be one. But their not capable. Talk about shitting in my pants while giving reviews. Almost makes me not really care about my job knowing two people on POG and my signing specialist make more than me.

That is just wrong, period. You do what they do AND lead/manage, have other responsibilities. That is just so wrong.

My signing specialist makes $5 more than me. He was the PPTL and he stepped down and went to another store and then when I got promoted he came to work for me to help me because I didn't have a signing specialist and there was chaos everywhere. If I remember correctly he makes 5.72 more than me.

Would promoting to senior even give you enough of a bump to make more than that TM?

I've been reading on here that the pay bump is like $2-4 or so. So, no. 2 of them would still be making more with absolutely zero responsibility besides doing what their asked to do and go home at 230.

I don't understand what the big deal is. Didn't they earn those raises over the years to reach that pay? Why does that bother you?

Being logical, the one who has the greater workload and more responsibility should have the greater compensation.

Just because someone has been there a longer time doesn't mean that they provide more value to Target.

I'm almost positive I was just answering the question that was asked.
So being promoted to an LOD and still maintaining the pricing and presentation team means that I should make less then a team member because I haven't spent half of my there? No way. What's the point in promoting of you're still gonna be poor lol

No I don't think so. Here's my question rephrase so you can answer it better. Does it bother you that they've recieved raises throughout their years with Target that lead them to the pay that they're at? If so, then why do you believe you deserve years and years worth of raises all at once just because you got a promotion? Does is hurt your ego that bad to know you make less than someone who has spent way more time than you with Target? Is it an ego thing really?
