So my store is starting this new thing where the fitting room operator (and I'm assuming sales floor in softlines) is now expected to start rooms for 3 guest throughout our shift. There's a paper back there for us to log the guest we help. Anyone else's store doing this? I don't see the freaking point.

We don't have to keep track or get a certain amount in my store. The Fitting Room attendant (I call it that because we're not always operator) is supposed to put all work away and walk back there with every guest. They're supposed to carry the garments, as well. We haven't been consistent with it, and I haven't done it at all, to be honest. I've been around while others have done it and it was awkward.

One of the newer girls actually just outright told the guests we had to do it.

?? what ??

What exactly is this? Sorry, I'm a little confused. I don't do softlines stuff.

I've seen other (high end) stores do this, where you take a guest's clothes for them, put them in a fitting room, and encourage them to keep looking around for more stuff.

Wow if this gets to my store, the fitting people are gonna be pissed.

And ignore it.

I mean, they sort their reshop, do their own defects, answer the phones, zone the clearance racks in ready to wear, do pick-ups in ready to wear, and if they have time, zone the women's jeans.

That, and the people who shop at my store are not the type who want to be bothered with someone trying to get them to buy more clothing.

I'll be honest. Sometimes I do this and sometimes I don't. It depends on the situation. I've had problems with other guests trying to sneak in without having their items counted while I'm escorting one guest to a fitting room, which I feel defeats the purpose of my role. I understand that they want us to give more attention to guests as individuals in hopes of raising sales, but it is not always possible with the workload we have and the amount of guests who show up at the fitting room at once.

It's also very annoying when guests demand to be taken to a specific room and that room is occupied, or they want to test the lock on that door to make sure it works despite me telling them it does, in fact work, as I've tested them myself. Or they don't want their clothes hung on that peg, but the other one. No, no, set those on the bench not the peg. I've had people yell at me for not taking them to a room, yell at me for "accusing them of stealing" by giving them a "police escort" to a room...

I'm especially annoyed by the new rules wanting us to offer to bring in more clothing or go get different sizes. They need to have more than one fitting room attendant if that's how they want to play because something is going to slip through the cracks. Either one guest doesn't get their next size up skirt or another guest is sneaking in with 8 items and leaving with four of them in their purse.

Try being a male tm trying to do this - oh this will be a nightmare...I'm sure guests don't want me anywhere near the room, I can see female guests getting uncomfortable.

Starting a fitting room and waiting for the guest to make additional selections will not fly at my store. At all. Guests go into rooms when other guests are trading out sizes or showing family/friends often enough this year, we don't need additional opportunity for that. No. I don't understand how a guest can choose a room with clothes on the floor or hanging on the hooks when there are other empty rooms available... The lack of guest thought is astounding.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who see how stupid this is. Like the idea is cool if you're just a clothing store. But most of us are constantly responding to back up,answering the phone, doing projects, ect. (Then we hear about how the fitting room isn't 100%...) I doubt it last long at my store. They constantly give us all these new rules and they last for 2 weeks-ish then die off. I haven't done it once, and don't really plan on it.

Oh!! And I was told from a fellow team member when we start a room, and the guest goes back there were suppose to hang around the room and see if they need any more items, different sizes, ect. Ain't nobody got time for that!!

That all depends, are you fabulous?
A man with a certain Savoir Faire can get away with many things.

What do you mean by fabulous? If it's what I think you mean I'm not - not that there's anything wrong with that.

I was thinking the same thing. But I'm a non-francophone, so what do I know?

I find that to be rather annoying they do that at Banana Republic and I always say to myself ( thinking aloud) I can shop by myself I do not need you to start a fitting room for me thank you but I have to be polite lol

I always appreciate that I don't have to carry stuff around! It frees up both hands so I can shop more.
