I'm the shoe brand team member. Due to some last minute thing, I tried to swap my shift with someone. I found a softlines girl no problem. But I was told she couldn't do it because she's not trained for shoes. Only one other person has been shoes before me and she's not able to. Why wouldn't a softlines girl be able to? I only spend my four hours there zoning because no one else zones the department. This is really frustrating.

One of the joys of being a brand TM.
The chances of finding someone to switch is very slim.
You might be able to get away with offering to work another shift if all you will be doing is zoning.

Why can't a softlines member take my shift though? TLs have team members take theirs.

It's possible you found a SL TM who they considered less than stellar when it came down to being self motivated which is something needed in your position.
Find a softlines person with a good rep who is trained in shoes and see if you can work out a buddy system for swapping shifts when you need to.

That's the part that sucks. No one is trained in shoes. Looks like I'm giving up the position

dont give up yet. suggest to your tl or etl, the need to train a backup person for shoes. so that you can go on vacation or take a day off without stress. let us know what happens.

if you give them plenty of notice, there should be no issues. remind them that you are swapping shifts with a sl tm to cover your shift. if that doesnt work, go to your hr & ask them for help.

Wait, softlines tms don't zone shoes at your store? You're the only one who works in shoes as if it's its own workcenter? That's bizarre. I don't see any reason why another tm couldn't take your shift in shoes. In fact, almost anyone in the store should be able to take it if all they would be doing is zoning!

We were swapping the shift the day before it was supposed to happen.

Shoes is the last to be zoned. Normally they are like just leave it for the shoe person. Pretty much all of my 15 shoe hrs go to just zoning.

That sucks ShoeQueen. We have our shoe specialist still adn she pretty much does the same thing during her dayside shifts. Making sure PTM pogs are full, disc is out of the back and the rest of the aisles are to POG, but she probably doesn't even have 15 hours to do that. She opens, closes, mids, but no matter who is closing, shoes has to be zoned. It's just not right that your leadership is fine with leaving an area a danger zone on a regular basis. Then again, entertainment never gets love from anyone but the entertainment spec/tm. I feel your pain, I did MMB for 3 years. I had one oter guy who could take my shifts. It sucked bc we're really good friends so if we were gonna try to go out of town or something over a long weekend it would have to be planned weeks or months in advance so our TL and ETL could figure out how to schedule to get the MMB workload done with neither myslef or my backup there.

My dept is last for everything it seems. I normally have to set the pogs and endcaps because plano plans shoes for last too. If price change doesnt get to shoes on thursday, I normally have to help them too, which normally means I'm pulled out of my ad prep hrs. Sometimes I have to go through and do instocks too. If I do POGs and its after 11, I pull them myself. When you add that along with zoning 108 sections in 19 aisles on top of the overflowing shoe reshop no one likes to touch, its hard. No one likes coming to shoes.

On the brightside, I vibe it up all darn day. People freaking love me.
