Target had little to say publicly about its plans for the area. But Center City's real estate community has been abuzz since Metro began sending out e-mail blasts in August about Target Express's imminent arrival.

"Their brand now comes to an urban customer," said Londres, whose firm has helped Target build more than 50 locations across Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Delaware over two decades.

When the smaller format makes its debut amid the smattering of chain drug stores that have served downtown residents for daily necessities, customers will find a broad sampling of what's offered in a suburban Target.

Said Londres: "Everything's at your fingertips."

Target declined to take questions, issuing only a statement that referred to Philadelphia as "a great community for Target" and one where it first introduced expanded grocery offerings in stores in 2009.

Yay! Too bad the one at Girard Square failed. Reading the various documents on SharePoint was interesting. There was once talks about having a Target at 63rd and Market. Dunno where they would have put that one.

Hey I am in the Philly area! I will have to check it out if it comes here!

Target Corp. will open in miniature at the Boyd Theater development site, tapping Center City's growing base of workers and residents amid the retailer's nationwide roll-out of smaller-format shops tailored to urban storefronts.

The Minneapolis-based company will open a TargetExpress store at 19th and Chestnut Streets in July 2016, offering fresh groceries, cellphone supplies, beauty items, and other goods in a retail building near the 1920s-era movie palace's facade, company spokeswoman Erika Winkels said Monday.

STL announced at hundle the opening of a "new type of Target" in Philadelphia downtown. An ETL of ours is transferring there.

The Lead positions will probably pay better to get them to transfer. But, I wonder how many who do apply, and do transfer, realize that the bump will totally be eaten away by the Philadelphia's City Wage Tax, if they commute, or the higher cost of living in the city if they decide to move.

Target Express in my opinion would be best suited for college campus'.

Unless they're already in one of the Philadelphia stores (NE, Cottman, BB, South, City) then CWT is a moot point.

The real kicker is going to be the commute time. Getting to that part of the city is not easy, especially by car during rush hour.

Walking and cycling are my modes of transportation; no car. Articles note it will be 21,000 sq ft. though does that include stockroom or just sale floor? I use to help out at a thrift store that was 35,000 sq ft. A Target 2/3 of its size seems funny. Can't wait to visit it upon completion. Wonder if they'll invite me to help with the setup.

I couldn't imagine a need for Backroom TMs at such a location. How is BR handled at such locations?

Are you considering an xfer?

I must have missed that story. Very big market opportunity.

They just announced 2 more opening on Long Island as well, I believe in the Fall. It's going to be very interesting to see how well the concept goes over.

It'll probably go over pretty well, considering a lot of stuff is up to half the price of CVS.

The Rittenhouse Square store had it's soft opening today. I'm going to stop by tomorrow and check it out.

Here's an external shot of it.

I know there's one on the Boston University campus now. I know their APTM, he's a solid guy. Brings in apps like crazy, and from what I hear, Boston University PD is glad to come down and lock up the delinquents. He loves working with them because they respond to everything in under five minutes, and if he ever gets a fighter, the response time is less than 30 seconds. Wish I could have that setup.

I know it's not on topic but I've been to a target express and they are really neat. It is great if you really need basic items and if you need to get in and get out really fast.
