So we've been hit with these recently. Because they go through the system the cashiers let them go through. The system also doesn't flag them but they are fake coupons. They're buy low priced items and the coupon takes off 24.99. Example. Nyx lipstick 1.97 but they use the coupon for 24.99. • r/Target

GREAT! I wonder how many of these have slipped past us. Most of our cashiers have the sense to notice something is wrong. But we have like 2 of them that are just mindless robots when it comes to this stuff.

I've lied before and said something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, we can't take these. They're fake coupons that have been circulating online like on Facebook. I know it's confusing because the people posting them don't know they're fake."

Basically it's like calling out the guest by saying you know they're fake, but making it seem like they made a mistake, and thus not blaming them. Super risky, I don't recommend it, but in certain contexts, it's been useful. Just, pretending you've seen them before, and being apologetic because you think the guest was sent bogus coupons....even though you know they either made or bought them. Lol

I had a guest try to target one of my slower cashiers with these. I denied a stack of them and "vibed" and accepted the ones of lowest value. Cashier told me later that the bitch said I ruined her "plans" and she would go to the x target now :3
We call the nearest one when the coupon scammers are out. They do the same. It's only a twenty or thirty minute drive between us. Tax free vs the surrounding states... They be desperate.

These coupons (or ones with similar format, different product) have been floating around for quite awhile. As a TPS I used to call people out on their bullshit when they tried to use them.

And to answer someone else's question, no you can't keep them. It's technically their property. Just like you can't keep fake currency that is denied.

I'd take em and move on.

Actually. I'd probably just turn my light on and let the manager deal with it.

@oath2order, after scanning the coupon, does it show -$24.99 on the cashier's screen?
They accompany it with other items to bring the total up usually. Then return the items. The system doesn't understand which item the coupon applies to. Also, a huge red flag would be if the person tells you to press certain keystrokes on the register.

I had this $24.99 phone coupon yesterday. I told the guest I had never seen it before and flipped my light on. The GSTL came over and told the guest if it wasn't her cartwheel coupon (which it isn't, it's a photo or screenshot) she can't use it. She walked out. So did thd lady behind her.

Lol not to mention backup Cashiers. When I am called up to the lanes, all of this crap, mine as well be in Greek, to me, and I end up just scanning it all so I can get back to my job that I am now behind on.

I can't even imagine Newbie SFTM's and being had, at the lanes.
