So many acronyms/different names to get used to! What IS plano? Are the people who work in plano team members or execs?

Plano is short for planogram, which is a scheme for arranging merchandise, fixtures, and displays in the store. The presentation team, which is often referred to as the plano team or POG team, is responsible for setting up and taking down everything. Members of the presentation team are team members who are led by a dedicated team leader (who may also run the pricing team in low-volume stores).

There are several plano TMs and TLs here who can give more details.

Basically you'd be taking things off one shelf moving the shelf up one inch, putting a new label strip in, putting everything back on the shelf.
Taking all the pegs off the wall, getting a different sized peg, putting up backer paper that is one color off from what was already up there, putting the pegs up in one slot different from where you got them and then figuring out what you're going to do with all the extra product.

Then you're going to find out that all those pegs will have to be moved down four slots because the Signing Ninja's signs wont fit otherwise.

After that you get to go over to intimates and sort through panties and bras.

Plano is generic term for anybody who gets stuck having to do anything involving trying to decipher badly drawn diagrams grandly called planograms, move the product that is already there, adjust the shelving, find the new product, arrange it in the manor that is called for only to discover it doesn't fit and then do the same thing to that same area three weeks later.

I've been with spot almost 4 yrs. Plano just finished a reset in Men's recently. Basically had p1 thru p4 and just switched stuff around. No good reason. No new product. Even Plano team thought it was a huge waste of time, they don't have. So finally my question. Has spot always wasted time moving stuff around or is this a more recent unpleasant change. I can understand end caps changing, but I don't get the rest of it. I'm talking a few feet for gods sake.

Most divisions have one major transition a year that entirely rearranges the adjacency to "better align with guest shopping patterns" and in doing so increase sales in certain certain departments/classes and/or the entire adjacency by 248% in one quarter!!!!

In reality, you have a major transition where Plano spends more time than they have flipping aisles all around and generally confusing guests and tms (HIA being one of the worst offenders since most stores have HIA spread throughout every block in hardlines and any planogram has the potential to move to any aisle on the housewares/home improvement adjacency). Then there's a transition about 6 months later that leaves 90% of the pogs in the same spot with a few new items (or will entirely redesign the aisle but leave it in the same location).

Sometimes it's just an excuse to make sure the product gets some serious hands on, other times a new contract with one of the companies means that their product now gets to be at eye level while the others are pushed down a few shelves.

No, early AM plano. When our plano team moved from overnight to 4AM, this happened every morning that they worked. Except our team was good about assisting guests and responding to back-up.

I beleive that it is targets way of making sure that everything gets cleaned and mega zoned... basically we are a glorified cleaning crew 😉

Plano is team that has to deal with what ever the drunks up at Minneapolis write down with their crayons. Example "Hey Bob lets take all the product that's at the back of the aisle and move it to the front, then take the stuff in the middle move it over 3 aisles, and call it a revision. Oh and give them 1.3 hours to do it in."

At my store Plano leaves almost as much cardboard and trash as the flow team
