Hello everyone!

So earlier today I got a call that tomorrow and they said that I'm going to start in the morning for training as a cashier so I can be ready for the up coming week. I just want to know what should I expect tomorrow like what will I be doing etc..

Thanks in advance!

At my store, they gave me 15 minutes to read the training book, and then tossed me at another TM on the floor. Then that TM repeated everything in the book, had me watch her for about an hour, and when she was done with her list, had me ringing up the customers while she watched. After that (was about 2 1/2 hours) I went home. Next time I worked, I was supposed to have someone with me, but he freaked out, said he couldn't handle it because he'd only been here 8 months (really?) so I was on my own. Your mileage may vary.

It mostly depends on how your particular store handles the training. You'll most likely shadow another cashier for a while, maybe do some stuff in a register set to Training Mode. The processes are pretty intuitive for most things and the interface is fairly user-friendly, IMO, so if you've done any sort of cashier work, you'll probably catch on very quickly.

Thanks for the link Hardlinemaster I'll give it a look right now! and RetailGirl I was told that I'd be working from 10am-6pm o:

I have about 2 years of cashier experience so I think I should be good then.

I've heard that from many people lol

It's easy enough, but it does get old very quickly. Come up with ways to keep yourself entertained. Play Bingo with the various common excuses people use to decline a RedCard. Or Guess When They Last Showered with some of your more pungent guests.

You get burned out cashiering for Spot quickly. And I mean, within your first 90 days. If you haven't committed suicide, or have been committed to a hospital by then, I salute you.

I've been mostly cashing for almost 2 years and I haven't become addicted to any illegal substances, if that helps.

I had a good first day. I was paired up with someone for about 1hr - 1 1/2 hrs then it started getting busy so they sent me to the express lane by myself and I was able to manage by myself. At the end of the day I had a score of 94% and almost got someone to get a red card but he didn't have a ID/License from here.

Good job!! Sounds like you're off to a good start!! Cashiering for Target was fun for me in the beginning, I put on my 'acting face' and did my little fake smile and the 'Hi, how're you?" to each and every guest. Just make sure you're prepared for the ones who want to blame all of life's woe and misery on you. The only thing you can really do is offer a smile, apologize and maybe call over a GSTL. (At my old store, the GSA's and GSTL's would hide from irate guests and leave us quivering cashiers to deal with them ourselves, but at my new store they handle them in stride and occasionally escort them from the store *with security* LOL).

Try and get cross-trained in other departments, in can get really boring cashiering day-in-and-day-out. T.T
Hardlines, Electronics, GS and Food Ave are good (in my opinion). I never worked softlines but from what I've seen, it's a lot of folding clothes. Lol

Goodluck on your next day!! =D
Welcome to the team btw!

I've been cashiering for close to 6 years and I haven't tried suicide or been committed yet and I'm perfectly sane. OK, scratch that last statement. Don't think I've been perfectly sane since I started:wacko:.

Wow, sounds like a pretty good first day. Great job!

That post was meant as satire lol.
