My hours dropped once Christmas was over but only by one day, I went from getting 38-40 hours a week to 30 hours and was actually surprised. But I heard they drop even more in February and March, is this true?

February and March are pretty much when hours are bone-dry for most workcenters. Specialist workcenters like POG will not usually notice a drop in hours, or if you are one of the main people on a small-ish team, like if you're one of the three backroom closers.
