I heard that the Wii U releases on Nov 18th. We haven't received any in store yet. Next truck isn't until 18/19 overnight. What's happening with release at your stores?

It is released tomorrow. Well, tonight at midnight. I find midnight to be in the limbo of night and morning.

We have about 20, but I think that almost all are pre-orders. We aren't having a midnight release or anything like that. We open at 8 am for regular business hours.

We got ours in recently & I found out today that they're having me come in about 15 minutes early to help set it. Let's just say, I hope it gets set in time for those dropping in for their preorders. 15 minutes isn't much time, when you have to grab equipment & get the gameplan for it all going. I'm scheduled Hardlines & one of our Electronics TMs is coming in around 5AM to do ad-set. I was told he may set it, but they're having me in early to help with it.......& I literally know zilch about what we're setting. I know the location though, but that's it. I'm dreading not having it set up in time & having guests show up wanting something that isn't quite ready yet. We need more time to set it & sort the preorders (most of which are sold, with the exception of maybe one or two).

Add to that the fact that while I work Electronics & just interviewed & am now an Electronics TM (after a year of being HL/sales floor), I've never worked a big release like this & I have never dealt with the whole preorder thing yet, other than selling the cards. I just hope it goes smoothly.

From what I was told tonight by our ETL-HL, he said we had 6 boxes (2 consoles per box) & that all but maybe one was preordered & to be held. He also mentioned something about holding one of each type per preorder(?!)......no clue what he meant about that one. I guess I'll just walk in to a surprise in the AM.....& hope for the best.

If you haven't gotten any and you won't get another truck in time, maybe they'll be delivered directly to the store before opening.

There's two different types of the WiiU, the 8 GB and 32 GB versions. I don't remember if the pre-sale cards had which one they were pre-ordering on it, but since he said to hold two for every preorder, than I'm assuming they don't.

He wants you to hold one of each type of WiiU for the people who preordered. So if one person pre-ordered the WiiU, than you would hold one of the 8 GBs and one of the 32 GBs for them, so they can choose which one they intend to buy.

Thank you for the info, it's much appreciated!

No problem! Anything to help!
Also, if guests ask you if the WiiU plays original Wii games, it does. It also can use the original Wii Remote and Nunchuck, but the GameCube games will not play on the WiiU. Instead, they have to buy them or access them via the Virtual Console service that will be implemented during the release of the WiiU. There will be two controllers, the game pad and the Pro Controller, which looks a lot like a rounded out XBox controller, which is geared toward the more intense gamer.

I know this because I watched E3 religiously and I also date the manager of a GameStop.

The white Wii u is the 8gb and had a white picture on the presell card, the 32gb version is black and had a black picture on the presell card so IF the electronics team member gave the correct information to the guest, you shouldn't have to hold 2 different kinds.

The electronics team member wasn't necessarily involved in the transaction in the first place, since the presell cards weren't sold from behind the counter.

I was assigned to set the whole thing up on Saturday, then I left instructions to the electronics TM who opened today (I'm off). We got in about 14, 10 were on preorder and the rest of the 4 I'm sure sold within minutes of opening. I'll find out tomorrow. Hopefully everything went as smoothly as I instructed but I'm pretty sure something went wrong.

We received 18 of the 8GB Basic and 74 of the 32GB Deluxe bundles. Had about 20 people waiting this morning. We had Plano come in at 4 this morning to set the endcaps with the games. Everything went very smoothly. I expect another rush around 10am, for those people that weren't able to get one at other retailers, as well as a million calls asking if we even have them.

Oh god, my store only received enough to cover the preorders and 2 extras two sell. Shoot me.

Don't assume that because you THINK your store doesn't have any Wii U's they don't.

I was an electronics TL during the Wii, 360, and PS3 launches. At my store, during all 3 launches, we held the systems in the AP office. No one in the store knew we had them other than me, my 2 specialists, the ETLs, and the STL. No one else in the store (that means every TM and every other TL) knew we had them until launch day, and if any TM asked we told them we didn't have any.

We had to do this because of the level of risk our store was rated with AP.

That is so ridiculous. How could your target get almost 100 WiiUs and mine get 14? We sell a lot of video games and sold our preorders within the first day. How does Target do this stuff...

My store had only a total of 10 preorders 5 white 5 black due to that was the amount of cards we were given but in all we had 60 black n 30 white the black we're sold out by 930 and the white by 11am at 1 time we had 8 tm's in electronics due to the traffic of guests

I was actually REALLY surprised we received so many. I thought we were lucky to get the 18 Basic bundles. When I saw the counts for the Deluxe bundle, I thought it was a miscount, and literally went to their location in Receiving to see for my own eyes. There are 4 other Targets in my city. I've only talked to one other about their stock on the systems, and they said they only got a handful of each.

I didn't go back to Electronics after 8:30 this morning, due to ad set issues, so I can't speak to how many we sold, but I do think it's unfair that my store received so many, when others barely had enough to cover preorders.

Our release went smooth. I got there this morning to find that one of the Plano guys had already set it, so myself & the other Electronics TM coordinated to run it nice & smooth (I snagged any games for those in line & he checked them out with the actual consoles for their preorders). Had to turn a few away, since we only got about 16 total (all but 4 were preordered & had 4 people in line early on that snagged those).
