Today I had a guest who was not a day older than 11. She did not even have breasts. We are talking prepubescent. (Okay well obviously not totally so. LOL) She had four WIC checks for a total of about $150 worth of stuff. She started to sign the checks and I said no no. I need the recipient's signature. That's me she said. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This girl was in fifth grade, sixth tops. Not even in middle school.:wacko::wacko: I feel sorry for that poor child. Not for having only one parent, but for having an 11 year old mother.

Maybe a rape victim? Or someone with - I forgot the name of the disorder. Where the person looks insanely young, but really they're 30 or something.

My wife teaches 6th graders.
She has two girls who are pregnant.
They are twelve and thirteen.
She has been teaching for eighteen years in high school before that and is now teaching the kids of the kids who graduated with her.

In my forensic work, there are kids who are starting to look at porn at the age of 7-8. And kids in homes with minimal parenting, they think having sex is like shaking hands and holding hands.

had guests come in to do a gift registry a few months ago, two girls and a guy. about 15 years old. both (very pregnant) girls got a scanner. didn't notice until they left and i looked at the papers... the guy was listed as the dad on both papers. super creepy moment for my brain.

Gosh again! Where are the parents?

I dread the day we start accepting WIC where I work.

Really WIC isn't that big a deal.
None of the cashiers I've talked to have had any problems with it.
The folks who use it, by in large are pretty used to the system (sadly too used to it in some cases), so they know what works and what doesn't.

We started accepting WIC at my store last year. Only GSAs and higher are trained to do WIC transactions, so us cashiers don't have to worry about it. The only problem is when a guest wants to use WIC but the GSTL is stuck at Guest Service forever.

When I was doing the clinicals for my degree, I was in a middle school and there were girls who were 11-12 and pregnant. In the entire school (grades 6-8), there were 14 :\ It was sad :(

Yeah, I grew up in an area in which it was not uncommon for teenage girls to have toddlers in tow by their fifteenth birthday or so, though that said, there were a lot of kids "experimenting" with things on a level of/of a variety of which is typically associated with high school seniors when they were just 9, 10, 11 years old.....

Over the past few years I have read/heard about declining birth rates among teens, so hopefully that's a good sign...And I wish the young moms out there well regardless of their circumstances...

Don't remember any preggers in Middle School. There were a few in High School, but honestly I think most of the girls who got Preg ended up going to the Alternative Learning Center.

Ah...

Mind you, a lot of them for my area were ALREADY in Alternative Learning....

And of course, most of the real young moms weren't carting the kids around 'til sophomore year...though it did shed a lot of light on some of the girls who would be "held back" a grade in H.S., or mysteriously vanish after junior high only to resurface a year and a half later...

Same at the schools I went to. I live in a pretty conservative area, so we were all sheltered. :D

This entire thread is amazing and horrible oh my god.

What's truly horrible is that SNAP is going to be cut by $30 a month in Nov. while more money is going to farm subsidies.
This might not seem like much to some people but that's two days worth of groceries to others.
Fuck congress.

Even more sickening is that many of those farm subsidies end up going to large agra-businesses instead of the family farms.

Not just to large agra but to some of the congressmen.
There are at least two who will be benefiting from the increases.
