I had a guest come in wanting to take advantage of the buy 3 get a $5 gift card offer in the ad (on the toilet paper on the back of the ad, at least in my region).
She bought over 20 of the Clorox bleach bottles ($1.89 each) that are also listed on that page. When the register did not prompt for a ton of gift cards, she checked out and went to guest services. My SDTM called me over, and the guest wanted to know why she did not receive gift cards. I did a price inquiry for everything on the page, and the TP was the only item included in the offer. I explained that the 3 bottles were only $5.67, so a $5 gift card would not be offered on that item. She threatened to call corporate, so I called LOD. She also explained that it was not part of the offer. I offered to do an override for a gift card for 3 of the bottles, but she just wanted the guest relations number and her money back for all of the bleach.
I know our ad's can be misleading sometimes, but really....a $5 gift card on items you're barely paying more than $5 for. I'm pretty sure Target wants to make money.
What would you have done?
