Hey folks I see that there's more than a few of you who have been promoted to team leads and I'd Ike to join you. My question is how? I've already been moved up to signing specialist (which I consider a step up the ladder). I've moved to a brand new store and only 2 of us from my old store came so we have basically a team of noobs. My TL and stl also came over among others and I know they require more of me now with the new team members and I think I'm delivering. Before we changed stores I talked to my lead about my chances of becoming a team lead. He was extremely supportive and suggested I wait until a spot opens up at the new store because there will be turnover with people leaving and stepping down etc. So advice on when I should have my name placed? Do I do it proactively or wait until something opens up? Or any advice really on getting to where I want to be? Thanx all

You have to be proactive! At spot no one is going to approach you, at least it's very rare. I also suggest you directly speak to your STL about promoting.
Speaking to your TL or ETL is not enough in my opinion. I consistently see TMs tell their TLs or ETL about interest and the leadership won't do much to
get you up there. Ask your STL is he or she is free to talk one day. Be mature and direct about what you want, but be prepared to give an answer the "Why do you want to be a team leader for Target?" question. More money or just because you've been there long enough are not good answers.

Continue working hard, be friendly, and make sure you get noticed. I would talk to your STL asap, don't wait.

Good luck! If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I'll be honest. New stores are a challenge to prove yourself in. They usually pick the best of the best from day one. The district cannot allow that store to fail. You have to really bring it to become a TL in stores like that.

Signing specialist is a position you can shine in though and work your way up. Like another member said I would bring it up to your STL.

Being a signing ninja, can lead to other things, like others have said. I would watch & wait to see what happens to tl's at your store, first.

Thanx guys really appreciate the advice. Once I get a good chance I'm gonna plant that seed in my STLs head and prove myself

Seriously though, don't wait! You need to let your STL know that you have an interest.

Good luck either way.

-Team Leads, or supervisors / managers at any retailer, have to be on their A-game 110% of the time. So always be on your A-game!

- to every leader about it. Whether it be ETL, STL, your TL, another TL, talk to them about your interest in developing and continuing on with Target. Get your name out there.

- Keep a high scope. Don't get so caught up in little day-to-day things that you forget about the bigger picture.

The biggest thing you can do is get the support of your store leadership.

I've always tried to go above and beyond and show my stl that whatever questions or concerns he has I'm already on top of it. But I definitely haven't put myself out there but I think I'm more comfortable with the new team and the new store to where I can do that now.
