Anyone else started loosing hours

I'm going to guess that the hard truth at a lot of stores is that leadership is secretly hoping that some of the new hires will with experience this season be able to replace some of the veterans next year. I know that's the case with some TMs at my store. They got hours when there were not other options. Now, there are other options. For the most part, seeing who is complaining about losing hours I can't really say that I disagree with leadership. I am, however, extremely skeptical about some of the new people getting hours eventually getting better than who was in the positions before.

I mean to that one service desk TM: Yeah, you're losing hours because most TMs don't like working with you. You're bossy and think you know everything. You constantly whine that you'd rather do fulfillment than service desk, but the few times you've been scheduled for fulfillment you haven't been able to work independently and been bitchy with DBOs and TLs when they don't know where something is. You have a habit of being nasty to difficult guests. You go to the SD regularly to complain about the SETLs. You've gotten into shouting matches with other TMs in front of guests. Etc., Etc., Etc. You're surprised your hours were cut when a whole new group of guest advocates have come aboard? Really?

I literally don’t even care if my hours are cut like hell don’t even know if they ever will I put in time off requests weeks ahead months ahead all decline or they play the I don’t see it bs. So I started a pattern to do it like all the time leading up to Halloween week still same shyt decline so now I decided who the fk cares anymore. Won’t go above and beyond like I used to. Won’t even do my Captain shyt. Will play the I’m busy with orders when in fact just chilling will just leave a batch in my gun and fake it for less productivity. I’m seriously done with Spot.

No. That rationale makes zero sense. 8 hours, the pay amount is roughly $80 in the bank. 4 hours, maybe half that. Which amount of money will you have greater incentive?

Plus not just money, but value of time. Think about the end of an 8 hour shift. You feel your day was productive. 4 hours, it feels like a waste because you did so little and was there so little, and you should have just stayed home and play video games.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who don't want that many hours - some have even complained on this board. They have other jobs, go to school, or have young kids and don't want to do 7-8 hour stretches.

And I almost thought I was the only one who had trouble with time off requests getting declined.

Hours go to training new hires (Who leave before they are of any use, so new ones are hired to replace them, and training them requires additional hours. Rinse and repeat.)
Heard the SD say something about how we were short on hours due to so many hours being needed for training. Also, I think they just get uspet & cut my hours when I ask them to change my schedule when they've scheduled me against my availability which has been the same for months and correct in the computer.

Just to play devil’s advocate, if you had more hours during the week, you might feel like you can afford to call out more and miss a shift than if you had barely any, where you wouldn’t want to miss any shifts.

A lot of people won't call out for long shifts because either the bills are too big or because they don't want to just get by. But if they are willing to sacrifice a paycheck, it'll be a 4 hour or 5.5 hour shift that gets the chop. That 4 hours can be used around the house, especially if it's Sunday when the buses don't run and other transportation costs more.

They’ve been cutting hours because they’re catching up for using all the payroll to prepare for inventory early in October 🙄 ...... Now they’re having another hiring event today.
A lot of the new hires don't stick around for very long. The strong economy makes it easier to find better jobs. Yet Target cuts hours for its current TMs. Ironically, this kinda makes sense from a business point of view. Company profits are up, stock market valuation is up, maybe they know best and if we don't like it, get a job elsewhere. It's Target, love it or leave it....

My theory is that if you’ve got 40 hours on the schedule, you talk yourself into thinking you can make ends meet on 32. So call out one day because “tired.”

But if you’ve only got 20 hours you aren’t sure you can eat that week so show up.

I don’t like it, but if I can’t count on people that’s what I have to do to make my ends meet so...

Maybe schedule the ones who never call out the 32-40 hours and give the ones who do 20.

Maybe look at call out patterns and give the 8 hours shifts to the ones that have called out for 4 hours shifts but never 8 hour shifts, and the 4 hour shifts to the ones that always arrive for the short shifts and not the long ones.

Before everyone being a dedicated business owner (DBO) cross training meant something. Now I can't pick up hours anywhere and seasonal TMs are in the mix now and are literally leaving trash on shelves and acting like they're afraid to ask questions. This might be the worst round of newbies I've seen. It doesn't help that most of them are fresh outta high school and have no experience in the work force. I hate to be a dick about it but this whole hiring people with no work experience to weather the worst of retail through black friday and christmas is an insane idea. I feel like we are shooting ourselves in the foot when I see someone backstock a dual located item or leave garbage behind when they go to the baler. Fuck.

not gonna lie thats how most of us vets are at my store now...you screw us over for nearly 4 years straight when we complain every year and work our asses off...guess what...productivity is about to drop hard

thus rewarding assholes who cant work a shift because they're babies who need to be coddled...I hate those types..if I wake up and dont feel like working but im not sick and I have no reason to call out...99.99999999% of the time im going to just go to work...the fuck is wrong with people screwing others over...you arent hurting the company the job gets done regardless...youre hurting your team by making us stay when we dont want to but we feel guilty because our TL isnt a jackass and is asking genuinely for us to stay to finish what you didnt show up to do even tho you aint sick and we all fucking know it /endrant

It's retail. We're potato chips, all the same, no specialization, no unique duties, nothing will be left undone because we are the only ones who can do that task. We're interchangeable. It doesn't matter what we do.

A specialist job, that's worth 99.999999% attendance. If you don't show up, it doesn't get done, you dont get the pride of doing a job no one else knows how and you'll be going through the pain of catching up. Hell, it's why I spent nearly three hours rescheduling my organizer this morning for just one of two businesses on my day off, and why I will likely spend two more hours without pay getting the other one straight as well. Retail isn't worth that attendance dedication. We're interchangeable, nameless, faceless masses.

I was asked this week if I was willing to open my availability. My schedule is now 6 to 2:30 5 days a week. I'll do it for 4th qtr then back to normal hours. Double truck days will be a 4am start. Whatever it's 4th qtr. Expect the unexpected.

While I agree that we are all replaceable, good attendance speaks to reliabilty and work ethic. Leaders definitely appreciate TMs who show up, and show up ready to work. Of course, that and 3 bucks will get you a cup of coffee. But still, I don't get these folks who take so little pride in their work ethic and have so little consideration for fellow TMs that they will call out at the drop of a hat, not to mention come in late and leave early. It's not a good look, and I really wish leadership would be more stringent when it comes to attendance - especially no-call/no-shows, way too much leeway given where those are concerned.

Guess I'm old-school but a job is a commitment - yes even in lowly retail, and barring a legitimate reason, being a responsible, reliable adult means showing up for work.
