Buying Items Not Set

I want to buy a few items that are not set yet. They are not street dated, but they don't get set for a few more days. Technically I can set them before the 15th I think since it's the week of. Is it okay to buy the items? They are for an upcoming game. They aren't limited supply and we should get more in later, possibly before the set date. I wouldn't be buying the entire stock either. Just one of each item. Thanks!

Yeah they have to be on the floor available.for guest first. At my store my SD says 2hrs minimum before tms can buy. No holds. No pick up orders etc. Spot is particular about its puechase guidelines. All else fails ask you etl to be sure

My rule is if there is a street date (obviously) or you cannot view or purchase the item on target.com, no one is going to purchase it until its set.

I'm not certain, but all I've ever read/heard is that they have to be on the floor available for non-tm purchase for at least 15 minutes? My SD told me just to do an order pick up for something I wanted once....and if that went throught then it was ok.

The 15 minute guideline was for clearance. If you can look it up and order for OPU, do that. That way you ensure any other guest could do it. We have people order items before they are set all the time, as long as it isn't street dates.

If you're looking to risk termination by all means go right ahead.
Must, must be on the sales floor as the OP said. If it's set and out then fine. Otherwise a really, really bad idea. Guests first always....
Would they terminate you without a warning? I've never been written up or anything. I asked two Team Leads and they said it was fine. I didn't ask my specific team lead because it kinda slipped my mind till now.

If you are wondering if something is against target policy it probably is. Yes you can get termed for buying merchandise that is not available for guests to purchase.

Should I return the items or would that just be worse? I had a guest see them as well and said they would be coming back later to buy some. That's why I just went ahead an bought them. Besides asking a few people I didn't really draw attention to it. Not to be mean, but would they even notice? I know they look at everything we buy under our numbers, but I would assume they mostly look at items that get flagged. Like for a price discrepancy or drastic change at checkout.

Don’t buy things that aren’t on the sales floor available for guest purchase

So if Jane Doe orders a mirror for an OPU that isn't set but is located in the backroom, does it get picked? Of course it does. So it's available for a guest to buy. I've had plenty of guests on the salesfloor ask me to go get items from the backroom. What is the difference?

I've decided to hold all of the Animal Crossing non-street dated merchandise unlocated in the backroom. If we put it out before the street dated items, I know we will sell through it and the POG will look like crap by the day of release. It is all going out at the same time.

Also, OP, you can be termed without warning if you don't follow the TM purchasing guidelines.

So if the item is available for OPU then why don’t you just order it that way? When guests ask you to get items from the back room, it’s because we are OUT OF STOCK on the sales floor, not because it’s not set yet.

Argue with the people on here all you want, you’re clearly just going to do whatever you want anyway lol

Transition items that are not set are not eligible for OPU unless they are tied (not pre) or sold in your store. Hence, these are items not available to guests, so you can't take them out of the back and buy them.

With collector items sometimes we do get asked to check the back because it is not set yet. Guests (or more typically resellers) will check BrickSeek which tells them we have it, so they come in and ask for it, hoping we will give it them early. If we know ahead of time an item will be high demand (but is not street dated), we can refuse to get the item for them until after the set date. Most of those items are not usually OPU eligible before it is set.

Exactly! I will not pull a high demand/collector’s item for a guest if it hasn’t been put out on the sales floor first. Everyone should get a chance :)

Here's the thing, we are not the only place selling the items. In fact they are currently for sale on Amazon. You can buy them now and they will ship them right now. This is Amazon themselves selling it. I know it's a competitor and different company, but I feel like it still makes my point that there are many places to get the items. I don't mean to sound rude and normally I would never buy anything in this manner, but it happened and there's not much I can do now. A Target specialist in guest experience said it was okay as long as it rang up normally at the registers; which it did. I have no doubt we will get more in. I should have waited, but I didn't think about it at the time. I'm not selling these and they are not a collectable to me. I'm sorry in any case though.

Is there a specific reason why you need them immediately and can’t just wait for them to set LOL order them on amazon then!!

They are a gift for my cousin. Her birthday is tomorrow and I didn't think it was relevant till now. My bad, I should have explained my intentions. I didn't realize they were available elsewhere till it was too late. That's my fault and I do take responsibility for my stupidity. Lol

I don't mean to argue, I was just hoping to hear from an ETL or Team Lead who's experienced a situation like this. The items are not available for OPU. They may not even end up being sold on the site. More than one guest saw them, only one mentioned buying some later. They were not a collector, they had there child with them who loves the game. Either the kid was told to act excited or was just pretending to care. She got really excited when she saw them. I'd like to mention they were on the self all day. They were not labeled correctly though. I think another team member forgot to print labels.

If they were out on the shelf then go for it

You realized that your ap or etl, can look up the dpci on greenfield & get your receipt copy? Spot might notice it & ca or final is given to you.

Unless you set the SP or Plannogram, I wouldn't touch the merchandise until you do so. If you can buy it online then just do an order pick up. Not worth getting in trouble for
