How do you read a Target receipt, specifically the numbers after “REC#” at the bottom? I’ve figured out that the third set of numbers represents the store number, but I’m curious about the meaning of the other sets before and after it. Are they tied to the register, transaction sequence, employee or something else? I’d really appreciate any insight just curious as start to train at the front of store.

Thank You!

Little late but here's a quick guide on decoding receipt numbers:

A-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEE-F

A is the type of receipt it is. Regular transaction, Gift Receipt, Payment on Account, etc...

B is the "Date." Not in the traditional sense but the day of the year and the year of the decade.

C is the store number. (All online orders are 3991 for the store number.)

D is the Register Number

E is the Transaction number on that register. They cycle 0001-9999.

F is the checksum.

So here's a fake receipt number: 2-6054-1234-0126-0694-5

This would be for a regular receipt since it starts with a 2. 6054 symbolizes the 54th day of the 6th year of the decade. Which is today. This transaction would have happened at T1234, at Register 126, which is the register number for Service Desk Reg #5. Transaction number, as I said, cycles from 0001-9999 so this would have been the 694th transaction on the register since it last looped back around. And the checksum, in this case, 5, is always random.
