Being a specialist back there for a few years and now a brand TM I have seen some really dumb guests.

Fellow electronics team members, share your story of rude, lazy, or plain right stupid guests.

One thing that bothers me are all the people that have to open an ipad case or phone case to see if they like it, then throw it on the base deck when they decide they don't. You see most of the packaging is either transparent allowing you to see the item, has a hole in the case so you can feel the texture and material, and is plastered with pictures of the case all over the packaging.

Not only are they too thick to actually use the packaging as intended, but they usually end up ripping up the packaging making it so that when they decide they don't want it I have to repackage it and we eat a loss.

What they do to phone cases really grinds my gears too. You see they label the boxes with the phone it fits. It will NOT fit any other model. Again the packaging is designed to allow visibility and a hole for checking texture. I can't tell you the amount of guest I see ripping into a phone case to "see if it fits my phone". To which I usually respond "Is your phone (model on package)?" and tell them in the nicest way it will only fit the phone that's listed and how if they open them we can't sell them as new and we lose money. Most guests are reasonable and stop ripping stuff up, others get huffy and wait for me to walk away before tearing into the next.

Oh or the ones that tear an item open, look at it, throw the open item on the basedeck and pick up an unopened package. I want to shove the damn iphone cases down their throat! lol

Enough ranting for me tonight.

OH!!! I had the pleasure of being an electronics guest last night and the lady in front of me was buying a digital camera. She wasn't any older than me so she should have been somewhat "techno savvy"... She was buying a digital camera as a college graduation gift for her god-daughter....as the TM was ringing her out, he asked her about the replacement plans, and she got one....then she asked "Oh, wait....can I also get some film? You know, just in case she doesn't want to use that little card-thingy I got? Will the plan cover extra film?"

Is film an attachment on a digital camera? That would be hilarity.

Cassette audio recorders, Playstation 2, calling the electronics department to help with wi-fi set-up, asking for a certain camera that another target had based on its color, how to set up a basic alarm clock, being asked to fix a used electric toothbrush multiple times by the same person over a period of time.

I had a guy physically bring in his TV to have us program the universal remote he just bought because he couldn't figure it out.

every day they ask me where are electric shavers ... and always ''do we need something else beside the router to get internet at home?'' Yeah! Pay cable company for internet service, my fav question.

Guest was at the service desk wanting to return an iPhone because she couldn't connect to the internet. I called the guy from electronics over & he put the phone through its paces until he asked her who her provider was & she said "Huh? I don't got no provider. You said I could get the internet on this!"

Both when I was an Elec/MMB TM and now in my current position at an IT company, I still haven't gotten past the blank stares and my inability to explain technology to the technologically illiterate. Need to hire a translator. lol.

Some people are just incapable of using technology. Therefore they shouldn't try.

Think I've mentioned this one here before, but always good.

I'm not official electronics, but I was walking by the phone at 8am on a Tuesday morning. The electronics guy was away getting the key and I figured they were just asking if we had a new release.

"This is electronics, can I help you find something?"
"Yeah, I purchased a stereo two years ago..." Ohhhhh, crud. "And I was wondering if you had the remote for it."
"We do not have individual remotes, you might be able to contact the manufacturer about it though."
"Who's the manufacturer?"
"It should be on the stereo itself."
"Can you just tell me?"
"No..."
"I'm looking in the instruction manual, and I'm not seeing it."

We go back and forth about 5 times with me trying to explain places to look. Eventually I ask him if he can find a number, "Usually it's in the back." He found that and hopefully went off to confuse that number.

We do carry a selection of Universal remotes, which are... "universal". They come with a list of codes for any given manufacturer, and you can program the remote to whatever you have.

Selling him on that universal remote would result in a LONG phone call detailing how to set up said remote. No thanks.

We have a little old lady that comes in to buy minutes for her tracphone. Well she went to put her time on the phone and it said it was invalid. She came in and talked a mile a minute at the Electronics team lead and me. We finally got her to understand that she'd need the receipt and then call the customer service line. She didn't have the receipt with her. She came back 20 minutes later with that. And the electronics lead, very nicely, called customer service and fixed it for her. Next day, she comes back and says her minutes are gone...oy! I was covering jewelry and really had no idea on what I could do to help. Told her the lead was off this weekend. She came in Monday and got him again. At the end, he got it fixed again, but OMG really??? tracphones aren't difficult! ARGH!
I think what's worse is when a guest like this gets your name... and uses it for everything!

We had a father, mother, and older son come in about every 2 weeks to buy Virgin prepaid phone cards. And they refused to learn or look into how to apply the minutes to their phones. We had a couple electronic TMs that would always upload their minutes for them to be nice and to keep the guests civil. I, of course, politely informed them that we can not do that for them.

They went to complain to the LOD, and LOD came back and told us to do it just this last time. Then it became store policy that we were to no longer upload minutes for guests as it is taking us away from our work (especially 3 phones) and we can be held liable if something happened to their minutes.

This was happening so much at our store that we put them on alpha display hooks. Pretty much solved the problem, but we still get case returns from time to time...
