Has anyone known or been an APTL before? I am heavily considering to apply for the position. What would my STL and DTL be looking for as an awesome APTL? Would you have to be someone who is hard around the edges? Also, what are all of the responsibilities? Do you have to lead the team in zoning during a particular night or are all of your duties strictly for assets protection? Do you think it's possible to have such a position at 32 hours in a week, working only four out of seven days in the week? I'm asking that because I'm attending online grad school in January and through December 2013. Will this position interfere with my plans of only working at Target for four days of the week? I also have another job to attend to beyond all that. Do you think I could manage that?

Lastly, if I ever wanted to get a top marketing job at HQ or have an awesome ETL position, will it make a significant difference that I work beforehand as a TL and not just a TM? If I were to become a TL, I don't want the hours to interfere with my schooling. But would TL give me a significant advantage in getting an ETL position or great marketing job down at HQ?

No, AP TL is just for AP stuff, not salesfloor. The interview process is harder for AP, then other TL in the store.

Are you going for APTL or APL? An APTL will have a TPS team to lead usually while an APL is all alone to handle the workload... I think it is possible to handle the workload, but it depends HEAVILY on your store's opps with the process... a high risk store or a store with bad operations can make or break your shortage indicator! You usually don't lead the team while zoning, but you will have a closing night and rotations... I also would take to all your leaders first before applying, because their support is what matters most, and if they see you as a potential leader (but not just AP because of your lack of availability), then its possible they will suggest you apply but make some moves to fit you somewhere with a workload that is easier to handle at 32 hours...

Whether the TL job will help you move up to ETL just depends... It hurts some and it helps others, because if you do well and develop well, you will go far... If you flop then you won't move up... however, its best to try and find out as a TL than go through all those interviews after school, become an ETL and flop at a higher level!

Thanks for posting guys. Rock Lobster, I'm going for the APTL position. At my store, there is no longer an AP team, just the APTL.

This is a rather difficult decision to make. At the moment, I'm in love with my current schedule between my two jobs. After the holidays, I'll have about 40 hours/week at Target, of which I only have to work four days of the week. And I will also work at my second job for 15 hours/week, of which is about 1.5 days of the week. I always have one full day off both places. With grad school approaching, would you guys think it a good idea to try to shoot for the Assets Protection Team Leader position? Would it be a very stressful job compared to being a salesfloor TL? Also, what would some of your daily duties be? Guest service, conference calls, inventorying expensive product, spider-wrapping product, etc. Anything else that you can think of? Ultimately, with a guaranteed minimum of 47 hours of work during grad school, do you think APTL would be too much versus what I'm doing now as the Entertainment Brand Specialist?

Go for it! Worry about details on hours after you get 2nd interview. Tell them you are going to school.
Good luck!

If there is one person in AP, the position is called simply APL. Assets Protection Leader. Paygrade 15!

I am a APL and they will most likely not consider you if you do not have open availability, You are the leader of AP for your building and need to be there. I do feel that being in AP is great way to move up in Target. Nothing wrong with applying though, the questions are all going to be about what YOU did and in tell me about a time format. You should interview with the STL,ETL-HR and then your APBP. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.
