They keep saying that the higher wages of $15 hour will bring them to target. Plus target tries to steal people from other stores.

$15 an hour is no big deal if they only give you 4 hours a week, and one person can only accomplish so much in an hour no matter how much they are paid. You are better off making $12 an hour and getting enough hours to qualify for benefits. That extra $3 an hour is saving Target thousands in benefits costs.🙁

We are only able to get high school kids.. Adults even at $15 cause my store is in a market that is still low wage, adults see the shit show we are and "Nope." right out. You can walk across the street, yes its less money but damn the stress level is less than half what we are dealing with. That is from a lot of the veterans that left our store.

Officially, the $15 doesn't come into play until late 2020.

That is the plan right now. Its not set in stone. People buy into the you will be making $15 an hour. But what other changes will that include? Look how much we have changed in the past 12 months. When they throw that out it sounds ridiculous. This is retails, what matters is right now. $12 per hour with no benefits, no set schedule, no promise of hours is not that great of a deal,

it boggles me how they thing a paultry 15 will get people, where i live other stores have cashiers at 15 lol. and as for stealing talllent? they have the nerve to think they can go after fashion profile boutiques that have employees that are paid more to do NOTHING more than stand there and look good! and the ones that do work and have experience are at a place where they earn commission, and lots of it! because if they didn't, they would not be working there :)

That last part is actually quite true. We have a team member or two that have come recently from boutique/specialty/high-end stores that sell high-end brands, and they look good and are able to merchandise well, but when it comes to reshop and maintaining a steady speed with pushing truck, they are lost.

I'm thinking probably get out. I've been drinking the kool-aid the last year and I'm thinking about "noping" right the fuck out. what's funny is if I decided to just nope out, I'd be okay, because my side business is bringing in about $600 a week and I should be reducing my hours at Target anyways. (Just submitted a new availability, if it goes through, I'm staying)

I've clopened the last one and a half months every weekend and I work Friday-Tuesdays and pretty much clopen every Friday-Saturday and Monday-Tuesday. I tell my ETL-HR about it and she says "Sorry... that's just because you're the only one available to close those days!"

I work with a team of part-timers who don't give a shit and show up to get paid and not to work. They always leave 20 minutes before their shift actually ends. They'll say something like "Oh, looks like you're screwed tonight since we didn't finish truck, oh well, have fun, I'm out of here." and now my TL is on ANOTHER vacation until october 22nd. My PA is a freakishly obsessed with micro-managing and personal image, my Sr. ETL is making us change to a process that takes two more hours to complete freight when we usually finish at 10:30am... we finish most days now at 1pm.

I walked into my 1pm shift today and they still had two vehicles of freight to work. A part-timer was walking off to leave and he puts his hand on my shoulder and says "Good luck."
Another part-timer was off at 3:30 but decided he wanted to leave at 3:30, so I asked if he could at least take cardboard down to the baler. he says "Dude... I only have like four minutes left." and I said "I'm not asking you to stay fifteen minutes late I'm asking you to bring our cardboard down to the baler and leave it there on your way out?" and he says "No, but hey, I'll see you next weekend!"

LITERALLY NO ONE CARES IN MY TEAM. I don't even work in a team anymore, it's just been me for the most part. I've had to stay late and omit my breaks except my thirty minute ones the last two-three months to help out and setup for a potentially better opening morning and when the time comes for the other TMs to stay and help out for just an extra half an hour, they never choose to.

It's just been really sucky. My department has zero upper-management support, my TL is on another month-long absence, the only upper-level management support I ever get is from my Sr. TL-Hardlines because he use to work in the same department at another store and knows all of the shit that goes on because apparently it's not as rare of an issue. My team doesn't act like a team, there's no commitment, just show up and GTFO at their scheduled time even if they never finished their work. I feel better knowing I actually care about my department and my work and try my best to leave everything done and clean but when no one else does, it demoralizes me greatly.

I would take this with a grain of salt if you are looked at as an important employee amongst your leadership, the people who are actually questioning Target's decision at the moment, are more than likely the smartest people in your store, have a lot of experience (and the ones with all of these qualities, as well as hardworking, will be safe). If you carry all of these traits, and are laid off anyway, count your blessings and apply elsewhere (I am sure you can find someone in leadership to give you a secret job reference).

I see this more of District/Region/Corp, giving leadership an easy excuse to get rid of dead weight.

Why Target would act this way, right before Q4, to lower morale, even lower. who the fuck knows. lol.

It's easier to performance people out when people's moral is low on top of q4 business so you won't be able to complete your tasks, is my guess.

Notice, Tasks wasn't mentioned once, in this post.

It is all about attitude, and that can be completely subjective, and with this roll out, apparently lead to a termination "as soon as possible".

Target corporate apparently has no understanding of small unit dynamics. They don’t understand that when they fire or force out hardworking veteran workers that it affects the morale of their work center. People aren’t stupid. When they see their co-workers fired or forced out for subjective reasons, they understand that they could be next. They discover that they are expendable and no one has their back. This knowledge lowers morale for the workcenter. People like working with their friends and this can be a factor in job retention. Many times when than non-deferential non-koolaid drinker leaves, a lot of his co-workers who Spot would have liked to retain follow him out. It’s like the ripple effect of throwing a rock in a pond, you don’t know what effect screwing over one person will have on the rest of your operation. The money saved from not paying that veterans worker’s benefits will be lost in paying training costs for the revolving door of new hires to fill positions in that workcenter. Is it really worth it just to get rid of a hardworking experienced worker because someone doesn’t like his attitude?

Only for a short time - then, completely forgotten and replaced.
We had one TM in our workcenter who was the go to person for everything. She was the heart of the workcenter. I can’t go into a lot of detail without outing myself, but we had a management change, she was treated like crap, had enough and left. Another veteran left soon after because of it. Years later her effect on the workcenter remains. When problems come up people still say “I wish TMx was here” and when she comes in shopping occasionally it’s like a celebration. Morale in the workcenter for those who worked with her never really got back to where it was before, because of the undeserved shabby treatment one of the best of us received.

Where are all these magical people going to come from to replace them? Record low unemployment and people finding better jobs, the hiring pool is getting smaller. My store alone can’t hire enough people. We are losing more than we are hiring.
We've hired 50 people in just the past month and have already lost at least half of those within the first 2 weeks. I hired 7 people to the work center and lost 6 from churn, 5 new people and one veteran who asked for part time hours, but had great availability so HR keeps giving them more hours till they nope right out. One more veteran is likely in that position within a month if they are not careful. One more new TM is already on a CCA for NCNS.

I respectfully disagree. Remember when the VMLs came into play. No one in the store was suppose to be able to apply. They wanted people outside of Target so they were "fresh thinking" and easily moldable.I think the same thing is going to happen here. They are not only going to get rid of dead weight but also people who have been there awhile. They won't do it before 4th quarter, they need them to get through that. Right after 4th quarter watch the hours for the long term team members who make $17 and up suddenly drop like a stone....

In the end, the position does half of what is was said to do. (I know ASANTS), However, getting rid of "the people who have been here awhile" (Which quite honestly, are probably more knowledgeable with all of Target's Practices (Which include many of Retail as whole) than your ETL's or even STL (ESPECIALLY) in times of upheaval (Leadership that was here during the specialist, destruction era).

However, I feel like if Target is truly trying to get rid of their long term/Senpai TL's/TM's, it is to drive the buying out of the company (In quite possibly an already agree upon deal, involving Target hitting some certain benchmarks, before it is purchased.

I agree completely. There are two ways to make a company look profitable: increase sales or cut expenses. Cutting veteran employees saves benefits costs, and if the company is being set up to be sold, the company management won’t care about losing their most experienced veteran employees because they aren’t planning to be around long term, but they may care a lot about decreasing expenses. I have seen a similar scenario play out at another retailer and selling it was the endgame. It was a worst case scenario, the company vanished from the Earth within two years.😢

Nothing new...Target's motivation now is FEAR and RETRIBUTION.

If I only remained at my original store....I highly ranked by two of my ETL-GSs to move up.

But I moved to another store that was initially pretty good on morale. Then when management changed....oh hell. If you asked them to

Had one ETL fired for having a relationship with a TM.
Myself and many others suspected one of my ETL-HRs was sleeping with the STL.
Certain TMs were allowed to have all their children join the store. ETLs would allow one kid to leave FA in a mess. Allowed the mother to work HR. Allow the another kid (GSA) to coach TMs.
The ETLs would only interview their chosen pick for an open position.
