Will hit 10yrs soon
Seriously, this is why I get so confused by all the complaints about older TMs allegedly being fired because of pay. There's all these old timers accusing target of purging put the olde TMs because they make more, but at the same time they're complaining about making the same wage as a new TM. Wtf? Those two complaints cannot both be valid simultaneously.I've recently seen several old timers get marched out the door after a lot of yrs of loyal service. I have worked there 17 yrs so I know my days are numbered. But with the minimum wage always going up there won't be much difference in pay for those who have been there a lot of years and those who just started. So maybe I won't be seen as such a liability...
Here is one on age.I've not heard of any initiatives to purge higher paid TMs out of the company.

I have no confusion as to how a new TM ends up making the same as an old TM. I see the pay rates. I know how much TMs make. But if the older "more knowledgable" TM is making the same as the newer "more global" TM, then the older TM isn't being pushed out for being paid more. He's being pushed out because he's no longer valuable to the store. Target wants a global, "one team" mentality. They got rid of specialist positions a long time ago. If someone isn't willing to change and adapt with the store, they're a problem not an asset.Target does not value their older, longer tenured team members. They'd rather hire a bunch of younger TMs and burn them out in a couple years and start over. WHY have knowledgeable, global & older TMs when you can just harangue newer TMs to be more global and ask them to do things that they don't know HOW to do (because they are new and haven't been properly trained). As for the pay issue, every job classification at Target has a cap (max pay). I have a few friends who have been with Target for 20+ years, and they were all capped out in their job classifications. Being capped out means that the only way you can get a raise is if you get an O on your review (and we ALL know how unlikely THAT is). When the starting wage went up to $9, anyone who made more than that didn't get a raise but the cap of their job classification went up. Now that the starting wage has gone up to $10 there will again be no raise for those who make more, but the cap will go up by $1. So now you can see how both of those statements can be (somewhat) true. I have been with Target for 7+ years. I am on a specialty team (read: higher paygrade), have received EXs on many reviews & am considered to be THE expert at my store for the specific area I work in. When the starting wage went up to $10 that meant that a brand new TM would be making just $0.55 less than me. I hope this clears up the confusion.
No I never feel that way...29 yearsAny experienced people (20+) yrs ever feel like the longer you are there the more spot wants you gone?
you are wrong... When you are capped out you receive a raise if you receive a ex. Or a O on your review... I've been capped out for the last 10 years and I have gotten a raise every single year...29 years in and still going strong... Old timers need to change with target or get left behind... That's just how it is. Just because we've been working here forever doesn't mean Target owes us anything.. Don't get comfortable.. Keep changing and moving forward or some young hungry newbie will come in and steal your job....Target does not value their older, longer tenured team members. I have mixed feelings on this. I have been with Spot almost 20 years. Through the years, I have seen lots ( and lots ) of changes. Some for the good and some for the bad. Yes, Spot has had to make some changes because the economy has changed and the world in general has changed. Guess what ? They will have to change again to keep up with the economy and what guest want and need. So, with that being said...I don't feel that change is bad. I don't resist change. I make take a little bit to get accustomed to it but I don't resist it . I also don't feel that Spot owes me anything other than the paycheck that I earn. Do I think there are things Spot could do to make people feel more appreciated that wouldn't cost anything ? I SURE DO . Also, there have been cases reported and some even sought legal action over Spot trying to smoke out long time tms, etls, tls etc. SO , itsn ot like it doesn't or cant happen. Lastly, I don't worry about some newbie stealing my job...when the time comes I will wrap it up in a bow and give it to them ( maybe even throw in a gift receipt cause they may not want to hang onto it as long as I did ) so there is no need in them stealing it .you are wrong... So, after all that time, how much do you make?No I never feel that way...29 years
You are correct its not the same company we used to work for. But if it didn't change it might not be here any longer and none of us would have a job... And don't get me wrong my store is run by a bunch of infant ETLs that just got out of college... But the good ones understand that the TLs and TM that have been around for awhile have a lot of knowledge to share..the ones that don't useuly don't stay that long...in my opinion you just have to go with flow..in my 29 years alot of changes have happen some good some bad... I love my job so I deal with it...Excuse me for calling you out, but all stores are not the same! You know nothing of what some of these tm's were going through! Target as a whole is now largely based on being young and hip. If you doubt me, look at the majority of ETLs in most stores. You are lucky to find one over 30. I have had several ETLs in my store and other stores admit that Target is going in a younger direction. It's not rocket science.
I was there for almost 20 years and received an O for almost every single review. Then, I got a new ETL who was a sexist bully and tried to push some of us older employees out of Target. Can you explain how I apparantly did well under every ETL I had, except him? Or why he was put on Final Warning and left the company shortly after I left? That must mean I was the wrong one, correct?
I busted my ass for that company for almost 20 years and adapted to all the changes, even when the changes were nonsense. I loved what I did until my last few years there. But I didn't absolutely hate the company and my job until my last year at Target. But even then, I still went in every day, on time, and still held myself to the highest work ethic. Even when I put in my two-weeks, I felt I owed it to the company that signed my checks to not throw in the towel.
I was extremely global. I have worked in every single department throughout my longevity with Target. So, if they ever cut hours, I could and did pick up shifts in other areas.
I did cry as I walked out the door for the last time. It was not only because "wow, almost 20 years". It was because this was not the same company that hired me. It was once amazing. And now it completely sucks. I missed the old days and the times I could say "this company is awesome!"
And if I was the problem, how did I get promoted twice and quickly at that, before I even hit a year with my cutrent job? Hmm. I just don't get it.
