So who resigns before they can get fired next? Steinhafel needs to go before this company tanks more than it has already.

Can he be outsourced to Bangalore and spend the rest of his life with his Indian security specialists?

He's more suited to work as a Chai Wallah where he doesn't have the ability to destroy a once respected corporation.

The sad part is the Indian security specialists were doing a great job.
It was the people here in 'Merica who screwed the pooch.
I don't they would hire him.

Is it just me or is this criminal negligence? I mean Target was notified of a possible security breach, had the measures to stop it and consciously chose not to prevent the breach. Not only is that extremely stupid, and will likely give a huge boost to the civil suits against Target, but it could be seen as criminal negligence. I would love to see Greg taken away in handcuffs...if only that were more than just a pipe dream.

At the very least, it makes them liable to reimburse all the banks and card issuers for their expenses. How many cards at nearly a dollar apiece, plus overtime to staff all the phone lines.

Exactly, commiecorvus.

I seem to remember a guy called Harry S who said, "The buck stops here!"

Mr. CEO should spend less time unveiling nonsensical phrases like "Vibe" and concentrate on what makes a competent leader in this new millennium.

I think it's past time for him to strap on his "parachute" and float away while the company is still able to pay him his obscene bundle.

Ugh.

I now spend my days split between excusing our inactive pin & chip readers and insisting it is now safe to use your cards at spot.

Please let my new job work out so I can quit.... I'm not up to this anymore!

Next up... Home Depot.

Just saw a quote from Krebs that said it might be bigger than Target.

Let someone else take the heat... except, conversion will plummet again as people go all "no cards, and remember what you people did" on us. Well, not that my guests have forgotten.... who says American's have short attention spans? They aren't studying my neck of the woods.

So why are people not as upset at a Home Depot as they are STILL at spot?

I truly don't understand this.... But I'm seeing it each shift. I even had a cashier from HD in my line and she said no one seemed to care, and they weren't harassing them at all.

Seriously? we are just so special at Spot I guess....

My guess is a different demographic at Target than Home Depot. We cater to a much wider range of shoppers. Think about the people you see shopping at Home Depot compared to the people who shop at Target. Lots of people shop Target for everyday needs. I'm guessing people shop at HD for home improvement projects and most people don't do those every week.

Where else are contractors and weekend warriors gonna go? Lowe's or Ace. They also are usually people that aren't too worried about making ends meet since they're spending disposable income to do home improvement projects or are contractors. Usually. People can go lots of other places to get what they get at target.

It's also worth mentioning that Target was the first big retail hack, so that brought along a big shock factor. People are more desensitized to later hacks, even if they're on a larger scale. It's just business as usual now.

Well, in recent memory. Other places have been hacked, but Target got a ton of press at a critical time for the business. Home depot's announcement on the other hand came at a time that's after the important season for them.

Also Target knew something was up when the malware was first installed, but they didn't do anything. To many people it seems like they waited until the end of the busy season to confirm the news.
