I am so angry. Morning crew member here and no one showed up until two hours later to open the door. We waited an hour and finally left. Now they said we are only being paid for the time we waited and could use our vacation time. I have been saving my vacation time for my trip, so this is not helpful. Kicker is that they knew the day before that they did not have an opener. I’m sorry doesn’t pay my rent.

They usually pay for 3 hours as you showed up. It may be written into law but im not sure on that.

Unfortunate it happened to you but they do not need to pay.
You have the choice to stay and wait in the future. Just sitting in your car waiting for the full 2 hours before the store opens for the free money isnt a bad choice, despite how tempting it is to leave.

Should've stayed. Sitting in your car, or on the bench outside is easy work (unless it's extreme weather). You'd get paid for the time you waited, then you could finish your shift too. Idk what you thought would happen

We thought someone would show up. If management knew the day before that they did not have a manager to open, shouldn’t there be some accountability on their end?

Yes, there certainly should be some accountability on their end, but store management that is so irresponsible as to know that they did not have an opener and do absolutely nothing about it is likely also too irresponsible to hold the guilty parties accountable. I don’t know what your management was thinking, but if this is any indication of their general decision-making they seem to lack the skills needed to run a successful business. Sorry this happened to you.

We once had to wait 15-20 min for our 6am shift on a windy winter day . There were enough people to attend the door in the store but no one came . We don’t have a bell by the door. Finally a TL came and didn’t even bother to apologize! All they said was you can do punch correction for the lost time . I’m happy that TL is not working anymore at our store , not because of bad performance but got promoted 🙄
