Market hrs

Hi all
In October I will have 9 years in with Target. The schedule that was posted for the week beginning October 17th I have just 5.5 hrs.I am seeing high school to college age kids being pulled from other areas working market hours when I should be getting some of those hrs. Why is this? I am thinking because they do not make as much per hour they cost the company less. I don't call out and get complimented alot for my speed, and backstock unlike alot of these young ones. Super Valu in the Midwest used to pull this same stunt. In the past it's just been 4-Hour shifts mostly Monday Wednesday and some Fridays when we get a truck but younger kids always getting more hours. Your thoughts?

Correction it should say August 17th not October 17th.

Ask your TL or ETL. Payroll for August is shockingly bad across the entire company. Ask them if there's something holding you back or if there's opportunities to cross train.

I'm 71, in good shape and don't want to cross train, but work faster than a lot of younger people. Would much rather stay in my department. Ie.. a college kid just started and he's getting close to 30 market hours which are taking away some of my hours. Let him go in the other departments instead of me as I have 9 years in in October. But then again he works cheaper so I think that's part of the scheme.

My guess is market doesn’t have a lot of hours. Other departments may have more hours so, they schedule other people there. These people then get pulled to work market. I make 15 years in October and I’ve seen this happen plenty. I currently work drive up and my title is fulfillment expert. I don’t do flex and I get scheduled under service desk and don’t do that either. It’s all about where the hours are. Getting cross trained would help.

Sadly cross training may be the only way to get more hours. Definitely talk to your ETL. College will starting soon so, once school starts your hours may pick up. The kids availability usually changes once school starts especially if they go away to college.

This guy goes to college at nite and was hired for market, so he get 25 to 30 hrs I feel that are pulling from mine. Let him cross train..he is the newbie.
