MLK Day

Target, nor any business has to go by federal holidays.

Target's holidays are:

Holidays recognized by Target

  • New Year’s Day - paid time and a half
  • Memorial Day - paid time and a half
  • Juneteenth - paid time and a half
  • Independence Day - paid time and a half
  • Labor Day - paid time and a half
  • Thanksgiving - off
  • Christmas Day - off

So no MLK, no washington's birthday, no Columbus , no Veteren's day pay bumps at Target.
Target is also closed on Easter but I don't know if it is a paid holiday.

Easter is not a paid because it's a religious holiday.
Just one of three days out of the year that we actually close.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised Target continues to close for Easter.
Wouldn't be any skin off my back if we opened considering we opened on Thanksgiving for a few years.
It was abandoned only because they were losing money thru holiday pay & declining sales.
Easter could prove profitable in the long run since not everyone celebrates it.

I guess I’m one of the few who still think of it as the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Which is good and fine.
I'm Jewish and my coworkers celebrate Christmas.
I do it with them because it's secular to me like Thanksgiving.
Many of my coworkers are atheist or agnostic, one is Wiccan, another is a Buddhist, a couple are into New Age spiritualism, there's even a formor Russian Orthodox.
We are a very close knit bunch who will take any reason for a potluck and a party.
Christmas is just one more.
