Hi there! I'm actually new to this forum and haven't even posted an introduction or anything. But I'm not sure who else to turn to about what I'm thinking. So! Here I am. Brace yourselves.
I currently am a Food Ave Team Member that basically does everything a FATL would do. At least I think so? I just don't have the title or the pay. I take on the most responsibilities out of everyone that is trained for FA. I do our weekly orders, inventory, stock everything, clean, train new hires/crosstrain others, and do whatever else needs to be done. I do have to turn to our GSTL or LODs to get our paper goods ordered, however (which can be frustrating, by the way). I think the store's reasoning for not having a FATL position is that we don't have enough sales or we're not a very high volume store. We are only Food Ave. No Pizza Hut or Starbucks, currently. However, there was a TL position a few years back. They just "did away with it" after the last guy left. So I don't really understand that. I've always received extremely high feedback and praise and am constantly reminded how much they appreciate what I do for Food Ave and the front. There has recently been a GSA position available and I've mentioned to a couple people that I would be interested in applying, but I'm not sure if my availability would be an issue considering I'm a full-time student as well. The current GSTL has continually told me that he thinks I would be a great GSA and I've been talked to about potentially moving up if I were interested. But I'm a bit hesitant to change positions because school is my top priority and I don't want to affect my grades or lose my scholarships and grants that I've worked so hard for. With all of that in mind, we are also scheduled to add a Starbucks this year. No one has any specific dates or information; we don't even know if Food Ave will still be there or if it's just going to be a Starbucks or what. But if we were to get that put in this year, I would be interested in the TL position and would want to apply. And with allllll of that in mind, I think being a GSA would be a great opportunity to gain some more experience for a TL position. So I'm kind of torn on what to do. I could possibly be a GSA over the summer in order to gain that experience that I want? Should I just stick with being a FATM and not worry about it? And somewhat unrelated, what exactly do they look for in a SBTL? Would being a GSA for a period of time really help my chances of being a TL since there's no opportunity to be a FATL at my store?
Thanks in advance!
