Archived Porn leads to SLO Target Evacuation

When we did the closing announcements someone always dialed a number into the phone system to activate the intercom. Pretty sure it can be done.

My City Target (if they still call it that... I don't actually work there) definitely plays pop music on every level of the store

So this just popped up on my fb feed.

Yeaa, I was given a warning about this today... Not to transfer any guests to the specific line that leads to the intercom (apparently they just called and asked lol) because "guests" have been calling and doing pranks.

I don't think a regular guest did this. Probably a former TM.

IIRC, during the greeting it would always say "If you know your party's extension you may dial it at any time".
If they knew the overhead extension, could they have bypassed the operator?

I've never heard such a message when calling my store. It's just the spiel about the hours and location, then the prompts for the pharmacy, electronics, etc., then it finally goes to the operator. Unless you hit the button to directly call electronics or pharmacy, your call will always go to the operator.

An email went out today saying that Target was temporarily disabling the intercom system until they can correct the problem.
People were accessing it by asking for extension 52. It seems weird that an operator would do that. Most people at my store know that's how you overhead page.

Spot has shut down all that shit until they can cypher a way to make sure it never happens again.

Great. So when little Timmy loses his mommy and doesn't know her phone number what do we do? Hopefully they've given ETLs a way to temporarily override for that situation

No one at my store knows. I didn't even know and I am "the operator" sometimes. They never told me how to do them. I wouldn't have transferred them to 52 though because I would've been perplexed and told them that wasn't a thing lol.

Still don't think a "guest" did this, though. Was likely an ex-employee. Maybe a former operator whose replacement wasn't trained to do overheads yet...

You can dial an extension after the automated message starts playing, but I don't know if the overhead page would be one of those. My store uses the 2280 system and we don't have mics anymore.

At my store they're telling us it "doesn't work" and part of me wants to ask if they're lying just to see if they'll say it

You can apparently still use the overhead mic's at the fitting room etc as ours worked yesterday.

If you dial the extension it just says "This call cannot be completed as dialed", at least from the service desk phone since that's where we usually do our closing announcements. We've had to have TSC do it since then.

There was a redwire today that all overhead paging has been disabled in all stores until a fix can be put in place. You can still page from a mic if your store still has one.

The disabling of the overhead system is really annoying. Last night, we had a whole slew of guests come up to the registers right at 11 because that's when the lights turned off. I clocked out nearly 15 minutes after 11 because of this. Spot knows that the cattle need to be herded with the 15-, 10- and 5-minute reminders!
