Hello!

I've been with Target for over 3 years, working about 95% of my shifts in electronics. I was hired in a "Sales Floor TM" but was quickly moved due to my background.

About my store's Electronics Workcenter:
-We have 8 Electronics trained regular TMs
-One of those 8 were a specialist, but since the title was removed she is now keyed as "Electronics TM" so she would always be scheduled only in electronics.
-One was a seasonal hire that was kept.

Here's my issue..
Myself and 5 of the other TMs are all "Salesfloor TMs" despite having all of our shifts in Electronics. The seasonal hire (turned regular) is keyed "Electronics TM", which according to HR would technically mean he gets the workcenter raise.

Would it be worth going to HR to request a workcenter change so that I am paid fairly for the workcenter I am primarily scheduled under? Before we had our seasonal hires, I did ask why I was just Sales Floor and not Electronics and our ETL-HR said, "Well technically Electronic TMs have a $0.50 raise and we can't change that for you." Now that we have a "new guy" that was hired in with a $0.50 raise over normal pay..it could be used as some sort of leverage.

I believe its pretty standard operating for HR to key you as the higher paying position as long as you average 50% or more of your hours in that work area.

Or they may deny that he/she is at a higher pay grade...at the very least, they will refuse to discuss their pay with you, and remind you not to discuss wages with other TMs. So it might work as leverage, but it may not.

That shouldn't matter. As long as the OP is working in a higher paying workcenter, they should be eligible regardless of other TMs. Electronics by default is paygrade N07 which would be a decent increase over N03.

I don't think so. I believe when you're scheduled at least 50% of your hours in a higher paygrade workcenter, you are supposed to be paid at that workcenter's paygrade. Also I believe you are eligible for backpay..

Annie would know for sure :)

At my store, they did give me back pay when I moved from cashier to photo, however I had to bring it up and I also had to prove how long ago I'd moved to photo (easy to do, since my schedule is saved in my phone).

Yeah you should go to your HR and request the upgrade in pay grade. This happened to me when I worked electronics and they gave me the raise when I asked why I had not received the bump in pay.

I'm in the electronics higher pay grade & now they are short ppl & giving me sales floor hours. Can that get me demoted in pay. I never got in trouble , great reviews i just made myself cross trained in almost every position so they need me.

Thanks again sigma7 I was very worried about that! I did learn it was just b/c I am crossed trained & it was temporary & defiantly not moving electronics!
