Hey all , our SD at then end of this Month of May sent a load of full timers home a few hours early a couple days in a row claiming he had overbooked hours for the month. Same SD also just flooded the store with new hires over these same few days. Can they do this?
Flood the last few days of the month with new hire hours then cut regular TM s hours that are already scheduled to cover this new hire hours?
We have no HR in the store and 1 ETL covering all departments under 1 SD.
Who do we go to ?

Unfortunately, yes, they can, if your state labor law allows it. It’s 🐓💩, but they can do it. In California if you are sent home early they have to pay you for half your shift, so if you are scheduled for 8 hours and sent home before you work half your shift they have to pay you for 4 hours. To my knowledge they never send anyone home early until they hit that 4 hour mark…

Sorry that happened to you, your SD sounds like the lowest of the low. If the SD is trying to torpedo morale and have everyone despise him, he is on the right track, otherwise he is beyond clueless and despicable.😡

Tale as old as time: bring in cheap hires, cut the expensive (experienced) help.
Then leadership bitches out the experienced folk for 'tasks not getting done' because the newbies are still learning how to log in on a device & still don't know where everything is.

Been here since April. Yeah. And threatens everyone with investigations/notifying corporate ... Doesn’t allow anyone to tell their “side” after a guest complaint just says they re escalating it to corporate . We were all fine til they showed up.

Sounds like a real peach. Is this your SD's first time being SD? If so, seems like corporate will eventually twig to what they're doing.

If this isn't their first store and they were like this at a previous store, yikes. How someone who's such a jerk lasts in their job can be a mystery.

Usually if foot traffic is not matching sales forecasts. Leadership can ask if TMs want to go home.

At least for my old stores, it was all volunteer. Once the store schedules hours, they cannot say cut TM schedules without their consent.

Days where we have 3-4 cart attendants, we will start with the extra CAs to do inside duties, help bag, zone and/or cashier, or send them home after 3 hours.

Forecast etc fine I m sure. Nothing seemed off busy as ever. What s unforgivable is marching in half a dozen brand new hires as the veteran TM s clock out after half a shift and our best TL is told don’t come in at all.

15 years with Target and this not a new thing. They cannot make you go home! They can ask but I repeat cannot make you! Be prepared if you say no to going home your next schedule might be awful. If I have lots of vacay hours I usually don’t mind going home early once in a while.

Sounds more of someone screwed up and overestimated the schedule. Or wants to re-allocate the payroll to a later date.
