Ive given up trying for a TL position and am putting out applications now. Been trained in Backroom, Electronics, Salesfloor, Ad Team, and am a PA. I have lead the overnight AD team, C+S teams, as well as being asked to be a team trainer twice the last 2 years. Have over a year of experience as a shift leader at my previous job as well. It pretty much requires kissing alot of ass, learning how to target talk, and making it through all the hoops they put you through

Pa is one of the hardest areas to get promoted from on the sales floor.

It may be that way in your area, but I have to disagree! I'm one of two PAs at my store that were promoted to TL and I know a number of other PAs from my district that have been promoted to TL. I think a lot of it may be how you handle the position, and the kind of relationship you have with your CTL. My ETLs and my CTL knew from pretty early on that they could count on me to be 'CTL for the day' any time the CTL was off or on vacation. But this might be a lot harder if you have a smaller team, or if you never have the chance to take over for the CTL etc.

It depends on politics too.

idk well the way my store worked most etl's just left grocery alone and only complained about any problems with their scores, whether that was LOG or GE lol.

Telling me they really liked my but i havent lead a team, sorry that as a tm i dont have the authority to lead a team, so that blonde that has a degree in finger painting can run a store but the signing guy with a proven track record of hard work and ethics for 8 years in various work centers cant possibly be given a chance to run a team, considering they just promoted a tm with less time than me to run a major workcenter, i guess i just need to Sit on workbench all day and play on my phone that shows leadership

From what I've seen on the boards and from my interactions with other signing people/plano TLs in our district, signing people are overworked and underappreciated. Nobody understands what we do, and think we have all the time in the world to work on special little projects for them. They also expect us to be in a leadership role, and at the same time, they don't want us to be because we are no longer in a specialist position and considered a "team member".

I agree with what the others said...considering the direction the company's moving in, you're better off going somewhere else where you will be appreciated and valued for all of your hard work. Sometimes the management likes to string people along and give them false hope of a promotion and squeeze more work out of them. Not doing that again.

Update, i took time to think about it all, their ideas to let me lead a team sometimes, and i informed them i am not seeking promotion at this time, no openings at my store now anyways and i feel from how others in the store who interviewed had what seems like double the prep and worked with than me, of course when i brought this up i was given a stock response, you had two weeks, you said i will sit down with you, you never did, not once did you ever attempt to, but you worked with every other tm going, dont tell me after the fact we can work on this, two attempts im done, concentrate on my other option, and crying in the fixture room because nobody detrashes pegs

When I interviewed for TL from signing I didn't get any prep either so I feel your pain, it was even the first question from the DTL: "So how much prep did you have for the interview?"

Then I had less than 8 hours of notice for all 3 interviews.
