Archived Target Signs Brief Supporting Marriage Equality

This kind of thing doesn't happen overnight.
They've probably been working on it for a while.
Whatever issues I might have with Spot except for a few slips their support for the LGBTQIA community has been first rate.

Lol at the comments beneath that article. So much anger and so much "well you've lost my business" posts. This happened after jcp got the Ellen endorsement, and it happened when Oreo did something.

I personally don't have a problem with members of the same sex being married.. to each his own....or her own... it really isn't all that critical an issue with me... Here is something to ponder though... what will happen first as I am pretty sure both will happen eventually... gay marriage accepted in all but oh lets say 10 US states or Target being open all day on Thanksgiving and Easter?????

Really not sure what two things have to do with each other.
Spot being generous and open minded in one area while being dickish in another isn't really unusual.

This isn't meant to start World War Z but how can a thing(a company) have a position or stance on something? A company is not a person. It's an intangible thing.

I don't really care what Target supports. Whatever. As long as I get my paycheck, I don't care. I am there to get a paycheck. Nothing else, nothing more.

If Target really wanted some good press by doing something helpful for the less fortunate, they could donate money to poor people in Detroit or offer to pay for the funerals of daily drive by shootings victims in Chicago. That would be a bold move. And isn't Target all about being bold?

Sure a company can take a stance on an issue.
They do it all the time.

When Woolworth's finally allowed Black people to eat at the lunch counters it was taking a stance.
It was a risk for them but they knew it had to be done.

This isn't a case of doing something for the less fortunate.
It's a case of standing up for a basic civil right.

Helping the less fortunate which affects more people or helping a small minority(statistically speaking) gain access to more privileges and benefits from the government?

I am not a mind reader. If I was, I wouldn't be working at Target. However, I would say that most people would be more willing to help the less fortunate ie poor people in Detroit or citizens of Chicago who can't afford to pay for the funerals of their loved ones that were victims of daily drive by shootings if given the choice or put on the spot.

A human can die without food, clothing, water, and shelter. I've never heard of any cases in which a human died because they weren't allowed to get married.
I don't see marriage as a right for anyone. If it was a right, there wouldn't be single people. Voting isn't even a right in America.
If was a right, why can't felons vote? I honestly don't see a problem with a convicted felon that has changed their life for the better after being released from prison being allowed to vote.
Marriage is a benefit scam designed by Uncle Sam. If you are truly in love, a piece of paper shouldn't define it. Your love should be something unique and something that you share with another individual.

Am I going to stop a gay couple from getting married or trying to change marriage laws for their own personal benefit? No
Am I going to stop a woman from having an abortion? No
Am I going to stop a person from doing drugs? No

Not my place or style to go up to someone and critique their behavior and lifestyle choices.
Does that mean I necessarily support that stuff or all behaviors and lifestyle choices? No idea.
Personally, I am just trying to survive each day without going insane.

Just wanted to pop in and say that Woolworth lunch counter example is an absolutely perfect one for this situation.

If you just start typing corporations are into Google, people is the first autocorrect. Then there's a million results about corporate personhood.

And I think most Americans don't care about the poor or any of those causes you mentioned. If they did, they'd be giving. Have you noticed how many companies are doing "buy this thing and we'll give up to x dollars to y cause." It's because that way people can pretend they actually played a role in some form of charity.

I don't personally make it a habit to boycott companies I don't agree with unless it involves the taste or ingredients of food, though. I quit Ben and jerry when they switched to that trash, fair trade heath alternative. So, I think all those people shouting on Facebook about boycotting target are funny. (My attempt to get back on topic)

What's funny about that is the company usually donates the money when they purchase the product from the supplier. If they bought 1 million stuffed bears to sell and they told customers we will donate $1 for each bear you buy, they already donated $1 before the bears hit the floor. It's just a ploy for people to buy stuff.

Corporate personhood. Legally speaking, corporations are people.
