Quite a few years at Target, I want to retain some anonymity. While my personal sense of well-being has greatly improved over the last year, and I actually have enjoyed my job much more than in the past, the recent decline in scheduled work hours storewide has been painful to see. I see many tasks simply not getting accomplished. Starbucks usually has only a single barista on duty. We frequently don't have a cart attendant or front end attendant who can perform tasks like checking/servicing the restrooms. We seldom have a dedicated TM on duty in the Electronics area. Our store's phone line rings and rings, it's mainly because some of us are more stressed than we used to be in trying to keep up with time deadlines.
I see my SD and most of our store leaders working really hard to keep our store fully functional. Many times I've seen our SD and ETL-HR out on the sales floor stocking shelves when nobody else is scheduled to get stuff onto the sales floor on time. I've seen them help out on checklanes and the service desk when we are slammed with backups. Not sure what Corporate is thinking when they put enormous pressure on the ETLs and TLs to meet increasingly-strict performance expectations - this tension sometimes gets transmitted down to those of us who are Grade 35 TMs.
Mind you, I'm probably one of the people in our store who most enjoys working here!
While I really like our store and what we provide to our guests here in the Greater Seattle area, I can't help wondering if Target Corporation will be around in its present form 5 years from now.
