To Target....

Worked 9 years at a number of stores during the 2000s. I used to be such a fan. Merchandise was simple and efficient during that time. Great variety. I think the concept of Market was great. I was tired of only be able to get Lunchables or a Lean Cuisine out of the refrigerated/frozen case.

But as of late, store merchandise, in general, has gone downhill.

Mens Clothing used to have a wide range with Cherokee, Mossimo, Physical Science, and a wide range of shoes. Now it seems Mens is almost a forgotten section. No shirts bigger than XL, pants no bigger than 36" waist, a small variety of Mens shoes; located within Mens, not located along with the Womens and Childrens shoes.

Electronics has been downsized to be so basic. Mobile devices and TV being the main focus. With the reduction in MMB merchandise, there could have been an increase in computers and laptops getting into custom or prebuilt gaming setups.
Now Eletronicis has its own location full of toys to fill space.

And there is Clearance. Little to none. No more great finds.

The conversion of Food Aves/Cafes into Starbucks I am just not a fan. There are litterally 2-3 stand alone Starbucks within 5-10 minute drive of my nearby Targets.

Now I just go into Target to walk around to waste time.

When they introduced Goodfellow brand…it all went downhill
 
Starbucks at least makes sense because the demographic for SB and Target is a perfect circle. They closed another Starbucks a few blocks away rather than the one in the Target here

They just remodeled my local WalMart and replaced the closed Subway (since Covid) to a Dunkins (coffee only at this point/doughnut case has been bare). Right in front of it is their new grab n go deli case and a Krispy Kreme self serve case.

In minutes from that store, are two (2) stand alone Dunkins and two (2) gas stations with self serve Dunkin cases and coffee stations.

It obliterated the joke “I came to Target for one thing and ended up spending $150”. Now guests can just buy one thing without ever stepping foot in the store. And those who do choose to shop in store are met with empty shelves, a messy store, long lines, and no help because every TM is busy running around with a ship or OPU cart.

This. Used to happen pretty often that I'd offer to fetch a cart or at least a hand basket for a guest obviously struggling to hold onto everything. Hardly ever anymore.

Drive-Up contributes tension and disruption to the guest experience for the shop-in-store guests. Once that (rhymes with) rammed 3-minute timer goes off, the Drive-Up TMs gotta make sure that everything was prepped properly and in the three-tier, including cooler and frozen items, then get moving ASAP past all of the guests huddled around the Service Desk, exit doorway, sidewalk and crosswalk en route to the Drive-Up spaces. We have to hustle. Not only do we face the hated and utterly insane 3-minute timer, but we need to finish up with the last Drive-Up guest, unload their items and get back into the store to get ready for the next Drive-Up guest. Otherwise, you have a "domino effect" where delays in processing Drive-Ups lead to delays on other Drive-Ups.

For decades, Target has marketed itself to shoppers as a leisurely take-your-time and savor-the-experience visit. That is a lucrative and profitable business model. Guests who can relax as they browse the store are more likely to pick up extra impulse buys. They are more likely to participate in Target Circle. They are more likely to at least consider using Target RedCards Circle Cards. They are more likely to stop by the Target Starbucks. They are more likely to shop here in-person again, and again, and again.

The Drive-Up service, and to some extend Order Pickup, disrupts the peaceful enjoyment of Target's in-store shoppers. Unless you're in a very new Target that has a completely separate exit/entry area for Drive-Ups and OPU, kept somewhat away from the main store entrance (something I've noticed at some Super Walmarts), the in-store shopper guest experience is diminished. It creates tension and anxiety for our guests, even when we try very careful not to get in their way and try to be patient.

Does anyone at Corporate actually understand this?
 
Dear Corporate— about Shipt... Do you understand what a time saver it would be if you could find out a way to put the schematic numbers for items in the Shipt app? I have seen poor Shipt people go insane and waste time tying to find an item, only to have to waste more time finding a tm and having them type in the long upc to find one item, when they could have just went right to the item. While we are at it, why not put the schematic numbers( or at least the section number) in the Target app? That way when a guest shows a tm an item they want in the app the tm's does not have to have the guest scroll down and find the number then wait while they type it in. They show the tm the product and it shows the schematic number and the tm walks them right to it.
 
Keep the ice cream but use some business sense and stop the bullshit different pricing, e.g. vanilla is considerably less expensive than any other flavor with shit in it such as fudge, swirls, nuts etc. Breyers, Edys etc all are priced identically.
 
Why are you systematically removing all Target brand foods from (at least our) store? No cereals, no pizzas, limited frozen, reduced dairy products? Is Target supposed to be a niche grocery stop?
I noticed this too. I thought "owned brands" were more profitable than name brands. Maybe I'm wrong. I assume the actual profits must show the opposite once sales volume and product loss (out-of-dates and clearance/salvage) is taken into account.

Yeah the second Target 🎯 began trying to be like some of its competitors (I.E. Amazon, Walmart, Etc.) it began to give credence to the saying Jack of all trades, Master of None. Target 🎯, just be Target 🎯 and these things would NOT be so. My 2 cents.
 
PFresh stores don't even carry guacamole anymore 😮‍💨 That's a staple for people on the go needing a snack. You can't even buy popcorn in stores that have obsoleted the cafe/PH. Everything in the Womens is a halter top, I'm not Winnie the Pooh. PJS are just shorts or modest lingerie. You can't buy a simple purse or wallet. I no longer think of Target for anything other than household items.
 
For urban stores my social anxiety cannot handle having to find a tm to unlock half the stuff on my list. At the closest store to me all of the tide, deodorant, razors, body etc is locked behind glass. It would be easier to just hand a tm my shopping list. That is you even can find one. I've walked out without getting anything because I can't get anyone to unlock my stuff. The whole company has been very penny smart pound foolish. It all started going downhill when they got rid of in stocks/pricing/plano teams .

I'd say even earlier than that. Getting rid of Specialists (& pay scale) and reducing the TL/ETL headcount didn't help, either.
 
Getting rid of backroom teams was a big mistake, too.🙄🤬
The Biggest Amongst other things. Nostalgia moment: There once was a time when Teams (Backroom, Plano, Zone, Flow) actually (drum roll….) Made for a great 😌 customer experience. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯.
