So I just wanted to get some input from someone who knows HR policy...

I'm trying to switch from GSA to a Guest Service TM role, since I'm looking for another job right now, and I want to eventually make the shift from full-time to part-time (weekends). Right now im on a corrective action for a NCNS (was over 2 hours late for work, called in and showed up for my shift though), and they said that because of that they wouldn't allow a transfer of work areas.... This logic seems really messed up to me, because that should really only apply for promotions or lateral transfers.

My store is pretty stingy with positions, we only have 2 GSAs and they use us as GSTLs on the cheap, I just feel like theyre trying to prevent me from leaving my position since I'm always told that I perform very well.

Anyways I ended up just dumping my captainships since they aren't actually part of my core roles, and my GSTL said they would cut my hours down to only 2 GSTL shifts per week (16-17 hours). But she couldn't schedule me anymore than 16 hours in other work areas because I need 50% of my hours as GSTL. One of my former GSTLs said that GSA is an auxillary role, and cashier/service desk would apply under it since its part of Guest Service workcenter..... I was also told I couldn't pickup shifts from the swap shift board to make up for my lost hours, and they would not be approved.

Anyone think an appeal to the ETL-HR/STL would help?

And yeah.... I'm starting to freaking hate the Glee Target TL Squad.....

I know our new GSA is not getting half of her hours in as GSTL at this point. I don't know if that's because she is new or what...so I would wonder if that is really true. It sounds like the issue is that they really need you to be GSA, and if they can't let you get out of it, they have to schedule you the hours because they can't put someone else in that role with you still technically having one of the positions.

Considering we're AA volume super-t I'd imagine we could have more GSAs, but my guess is the payroll nazis are just being stingy. I think they're pulling a lot of this information they're telling me out of their ass lol.

Yeah I know theres a "minimum" hour requirement (I heard it was 25, but maybe not), but I think thats for total hours under the Guest Service work center... Because i've been scheduled under 20 GSTL hours back when there was 3 GSTL 2 GSA (we're 2/2 now).

Yeah... Thats an old thread. I seriously shouldn't have put it off for so long, I was just trying to be helpful by toughing it out for them so they wouldn't have to retrain another person.

This makes my head hurt, because we're 1.25/3, and we're a ULV.

But if you want to go part-time, can't you still do GSA? Two of our GSAs are only part time...one for school reasons and no clue why the other one is only scheduled that way.

They wouldn't let me change my availability to weekends only as a GSA position because it would most likely force them to hire another GSA which they won't do unless its life or death.

Heck, I was told that even if i was a Guest Service TM right now they wouldn't approve a change in availability to weekends only because it doesn't meet their "business needs". Our last GSTL (Who was probably the best TL i've ever worked with), made provisions for people when their life situations changed instead of just giving them the finger... I was told his methods of leadership weren't reflective of Target's goal. Go figure...

we have 2 GSTL's (right now just me but we have two positions) and 6 GSA's. When we have both GSTL's the GSA's pretty much get one or two shifts as a gstl. We mostly use our GSA's as cash office and GS so i don't understand why you couldn't work in GS to pick up more hours.

Yeah like I said I think they're pulling policies out of their ass, and just looking to screw me over.

Why they think keeping a pissed off GSA in his position is a good idea is beyond me.

So I asked if I find another job finally and wanted to switch part-time if I would be out of luck, and have to quit. I was told yes. Not sure how its in their "business interests" to have a 3+ year veteran who gets good performance reviews quit instead of making them part time on the weekends (the busiest days of the week!). Gotta love leadership pissing matches.

i don't understand moves like this. I feel like they want to keep you so they're trying to discourage you from leaving but this is a stupid way to do it. My best gsa has very limited availability because she wants to be home when her 4 kids go to and from school and sometimes it stinks but i cater to that because she's a top performer of mine and i can always count on her. (plus when you have 6 GSA's it makes it easy!)
Who does your cash office if you only have two of you?

They kept an old cash office specialist to do the position. Not sure what their job code is now though. And yeah I'm constantly being given thank you cards for my hard work, but obviously that's all superficial lol.

You can't be scheduled more then 50% outside of your workcenter. But wait - does that mean the "Guest Service" area (areas on the grid from GSTL/GSA down to Cart Attendant?) or does that refer to just that workcenter expense code?

I have a GSA who does 5 days a week in CO. 15 hours right there. The rest of her shifts? Cashier. It's a 239/Cashier split shift. But, she watches the lanes as the GSTL will often step off the floor. 20 hours cashier.

35 hours, 20 of which are cashier. 15 are 239. 239 can technically be considered an extension of the GSTL/GSA workcenter, but what about cashier?

It's all political BS.

Well Cashier and Guest Service are on the GSA Learning Plan, so IMO they should be applicable! Now maybe not Cart Attending....
