In my area we got an inch and a half and keep losing power from down lines. It took me 3 differerent attempts to get to work due to road closures. We also had to toss a bunch of market food. Idk what the rule is but it was over 3 hours and idk what happened with the generators.
The generators don't keep refrigeration running. When our electricity went down last time, the generators powered only emergency lights and half the registers (as far as I could tell). When the electricity goes out, all you can do is cover the open coolers with plastic sheeting, block off the refrigerated/frozen doors, and hope the power comes back on soon. And yeah, I'm pretty sure the rule is 3 hours w/o electricity means everything that's supposed to be cold has to be tossed.
