So I have found out that they are apparently hiring another "apparel team member" for my target. Why?! I seriously want an answer. Everyone has been complaining about the lack of hours in soft lines. Could it be because they plan to fire someone (knowing my luck it'll probably be me)? One of my co-workers with open availability was scheduled for 10 hours with open availability in soft lines and I've been getting a third of the hours I got last year around this time. Why?!?!?

It's that time of the yer to hire. My store is hiring and has no payroll hours for them. But come back to school time hours pick up again.

They do this every few months. Hire a bunch of people/ have a cattle call hiring process and then it stops and repeats. They give more hours to the noobs because of training and things. 9 times out of ten most don't show up or come back after a couple shifts. I've been there about 7 months now and have dealt with this 3 times lol

I don't really understand the hiring process for spot. Just a few months ago we were trying to hire a bunch of people - most notably they were looking for 5 hires in softlines. They got one, and ended up cross training him .... So he immediately hated softlines, and gave up those shifts as much as he could. He then quit like after a month because a different previous seasonal employer offered him a position. .... But they never sought to hire anyone else.... And we already had trouble with coverage because we have so many softlines girls with super limited availability ( two tms who are down to one or two nights a week avail (full time employed elsewhere & stay only for benefits, one who has tried to apply for LoA twice in the six months I've been there), another two who are open like weekends and one night a week because of college & one more who has half way decent availability split with another job, but who consistently refuses her shifts / calls off) -- add to that we lost a sf tm to electronics/grocery because we were short there and she was well liked / needed a raise .... And now I've left && so has the last girl I mentioned.

They have so far only found one "person" and that was a girl already at our store who keeps moving departments (was pricing and Plano for a while) because her personal schedule keeps changing. Which I'm glad it's working out for her, but they need more people - especially reliable ones even if for only a few shifts a week -- and from what I've heard they've decided to wait to hire for another month....they are overworking one of the semi regular girls (she has a max out of 22 hrs a week because of a second 30hr a week job) && she's ready to quit if they don't stop scheduling her five shifts /30+ hrs a week. She is esp annoyed because they promised her hours for vm & have yet to come thru on it ....

My softlines area has gone to absolute shit because of summer picking up. I'm not surprised to hear they're hiring a bunch of apparel people

Gearing up for Back to School most likely. I doubt they will just fire you, if anything they would just move you around if you're not performing at standard or above. You can also always talk to different ETLs about obtaining more hours for several areas of the store. There are two areas of target that usually a lot of steady hours, POG team and backroom team. Mainly because both are 100% essential to the blood of the store. Ask to be trained. Last year BTS got so heavy backroom was being approved 10 hours OT a week and even some Flow team members got approved OT. Just start talking to higher ups. You're fine.

We lost 3-4 employees in the past couple month, while we've been getting 10-5 hours (normally we get 10-6:30) and 3 days a week. Suddenly they've hired 4 more employees, and they've made an excuse of "Oh they're for P Fresh.". No they're not! They're doing pulls and helping out the back room. A team that has been constantly getting 35-40 work weeks since January.
Plus we got a missing flow team member back, but he shouldn't still have a job. As I've mentioned elsewhere, the guy watches porn while stocking the shelves.

At my store, you're expendable if you're white. If you speak Spanish, you have señority.

One of the reasons is they don't want to be left short handed when TM drop out of target because of low hours. Also there is some logic to looking for that person who needs a job and will put forth the extra effort when hired, vs someone who has the job and does the bare minimum because he can.
