I miss the days of actually meeting potential hires. Now every single first interview is this informal phone interview crap. I find it really difficult to judge a person's personality over the phone. Not being able to see their facial expressions and body language really leads to a "well, they sounded good" mentality. Now we're getting flak for scheduling second interviews for people that they say shouldn't have made it past the first interview. How was I supposed to know this person would show up dressed in black with a spiked collar? How was I supposed to know the person was going to pass out during the second interview because of "anxiety issues"? (this is all true by the way) If they want us to better weed out non hires then please bring back the one on one interviews.
