Archived Can I work at Target and Best Buy at the same time?

Ok so with spot I hardly get hours, usually between 20-25, so I know Best Buy will hire soon and I would like to get the 15 hours spot doesn't give me just so I can work 40 hours a week , so was wondering if I could work with them too. I know you cannot at Walmart, but what about Best buy?

I'm under the impression you can work anywhere now. Our HRBP recently said TMs can work at both Target and Walmart (the rules are different for leaders). I imagine it will be difficult getting hired elsewhere if you submit a limited availability.

This was a corporate rule change over 5 years ago. You can work anywhere else you want.

It would be weird to finish a shift at Target...and then go into WalMart, and see the same guest picking up things they couldn't find a Target. Lol.

If spot gave more consistent hours people wouldn't need to have a second job.

I imagine Walmart might be weird about it. Years ago my mom said something about someone at our local Walmart being found out that they had a second job at Target, and was immediately escorted off the premises. Knowing her, it's probably just a rumor, but still.

That wouldn't surprise me. A lot of retailers get really uptight about that for some reason. Target, at least my Target, doesn't care at all.

Lots of "trade secrets" could be traded if you worked at both, not even intentionally. I think it would be fun to work at both, lol.

can't imagine that too many people think that it is a lot of fun working at either one,we are in the middle of a total change out of leadership so no one knows what is going on,maybe that could be one of our secrets.

As per the conflict of interest form tm's have to sign, it says tm's can work at competitor retailers as long as they don't serve in a supervisory capacity and a few other provisions. Here's a shorthand version of the policy (see pg 15). If it doesn't say anything on there, I'd ask your HR.

I used to be a salesperson at Best Buy. There's slightly more pressure to sell attachments (protection plans, services, and accessories) since that's practically the only place BestBuy makes money. However, the benefits are better (ie. training with perks like free electronics, raffles, killer employee discount). Plus there are more people that specialize in different things, which could reduce stress. If I had to choose Target vs BBY as a salesperson/tm, I'd go with BBY in a heartbeat.

It was probably true. We have a TM who also worked at Walmart and when Walmart found out, they fired him right away.

I've considered best buy honestly, what is the discount there like? Also, isn't there break system different than target?

It used to be really good. Almost any item (iPads, PlayStation, etc. excluded) is cost + 10% for employees. I'm not sure if it's the same still.

Yeah it used to be you could buy things at cost (what BBY pays for things). That saved you like 90% on accessories and services. Then it became cost plus 10%. Still really good, just don't expect mark off on the large items like TVs, computers, game consoles, etc. because BBY doesn't make a profit on those. But you could take home $20 HDMI cables for $2, etc..
