we're hiring and still spotty volunteer ot. i feel like at my building voluntary ot will essentially be forever anymore, if not mandatory half of the year. red area economy perks i guess. we have slowed down a lot/voluntary vns at times too though. like always its literally day by day.

It’s awesome! Are LWWs allowed to take the non paid vaction? Our DC has been flexing down for months.

i dont like it because whats to stop people from just locking up the whole calender with upt, leaving people unable to use their vacation hours?

there are a few people who's babby daddy/momma (gotta be pc) supports them or have another job. they'll take all the upt they can get. there's very limited time off slots.

the protection answer might be mass vacation, but personally i prefer to do most of my vac days 1 or 2 or even 1/2 day at a time, a week or two beforehand. its going to possibly lock out ppl like me the most.

Not even to mention in my dept "that guy" thats known to manipulate the vac calendar by putting himself down for days he has no intention of actually taking. but just in case, or to give away to other people during fall season. since theres no punishment for coming in on your vac day and "oops i forgot, but I'm, staying if thats ok" (happens all the time anyway)

this was what i was flipping out about about the first time upt came up here.

the end issue could be people with max vac hours built up, being required to use them, but not being able to use them due to an indefinitely locked calendar filled with upt, or just being forced to call in if they need a day on short notice and it's locked via upt. I suspect target, being annoying, will just make a occasional ad hoc last minute calendar exception for those people so they can keep a bad UPT policy.

What target is counting on and may happen, is most people wont use UPT regularly because they need the money. But it can help them out in a pinch. i can even see myself using it. but i take so much vns as is which hurts my pocketbook, i dont like the temptation.

i foresee issues. but we'll see i guess.

I asked the same question before about if PTO takes priority over UTO and was told no. That’s why UTO can only be requested up to 90 days in advance, while PTO can be done further out, like 120 or 180 days. When you add that with mass vacation planning, there’s still plenty of chances to get PTO in before the calendar fills with UTO. If you like taking your vacation days a week or two before, that’s fine, but things are different now. If you’re worried about the calendar filling up, then you just have to plan ahead. Everyone has the same chance to request time, so I don’t see much to complain about. I do think PTO should come before UTO, but I don’t make the rules. At least it seems fair across the board. And about “that guy” who plays games with the calendar, that’s just bad leadership. It should be handled like mandatory OT. You can’t show up expecting to work OT if you’re not on the schedule, and same goes for vacation. You shouldn’t just come in on your scheduled day off without giving notice. That’s not a system issue, that’s poor management.

well here it happens a lot that people forget they are off and come in. now i dont know what %, I'm sure it's not the majority. Then when told they are off, say they'd rather stay. and they wont be refused at all if they're needed or even just to be nice to them i guess, my building kinda prioritizes making plans above anything else. I was told by a lead that it's the major problem they struggle with vac right now or something (so, not sure why they dont do anything). I know some particular TM's may have this issue forgetfulness issue worse than others. most things in my dept are more or less handled by a certain tenured lead and yes they are absolutely terrible IMO but thats another story.

the playing games guy, well thats just how he is. any system, he's going to manipulate it. this was several years ago when they closed the calendar completely in fall season. so by taking fall season days specifically he felt he was holding the calendar open for others, by offering anybody his days basically. he sort of had a point it was kind of sticking it to target. i dont know if he still would bother "manipulating" the calendar. but there are definitely people like that.

I did hear the 90 days thing about upt, but 120 or 180 for vac sounds like you don't actually know how long ahead vac can be scheduled. I wonder if it's for sure.

But yeah, it is what it is, and wait and see kinda deal i guess.

EXACTLY what is happening at my DC. The 20+ year people who were signing up at midnight for VLE weeks out are now signing up for unpaid time 90 days out, so there is no calendar time available for anyone else. Then they cancel the day before when they finally feel like working, which still doesn’t leave any time for the rest of us to actually plan anything.
