So hey guys/gals , i was wondering what does a Brand/specialist Electronics do exactly? We have on at the store i work at leaving soon and i would love to jump on that position but would like to know what i'm getting into exactly. So lay it on me!

If they were the former specialist when that position actually existed, they maintained the electronics department. The built salesplanners, flexed and maintained MPG aisles, drove/owned guest service and attachments, label maintenance, cleaning, some did the revisions. It's likely that your store won't replace them and instead will spread those responsibilities around to the other electronics team members. And by spread those responsibilities, I mean your leadership will probably pass off salesplanners to the opening electronics team member and really only make sure attachments and survey scores are green. Everything else goes by the wayside.

I'm only speaking from my experience when I moved from electronics specialist to entertainment specialist and was never replaced. I was expected to do both jobs, but then the cuts came around and no one cared about electronics brand anymore. Once I promoted to TL...I think about entertainment and feel really bad for the guy who gets 15-20 hours a week to do what I did in 32-40.

It just sounds like the Electronics brand team member with extra responsibility. Pg 7 with the added fact of managing ptm, salesplanners, and attachment. So essentially a TL-Lite. I suppose it would get you more hours though that isn't a guarantee, and frankly the added stress of managing AAR just doesn't seem worthwihle.

The person you are talking about was likely "grandfathered" at your store, especially if they are calling him a "specialist" still. (he is lucky, most stores don't do that anymore)

A few years ago, Target eliminated all specialist positions company wide. Some of the few that are still hanging on get to keep their old pay/work center/etc.

Hate to tell you this, but you will not be able to get his job because his job does not exist anymore. Once he is gone, that's it. The position is gone forever at your store. His roles will have to be given to regular electronics TM's - this is a company rule, and there is no exception to it. Your stores ETL-HR couldn't even do it if he/she wanted to because corporate won't allow it. It was a corporate decision sent down to all stores. Sucks, doesn't it? This company used to be a lot better than it is today.

If that kind of job appeals to you, however, Best Buy has many jobs that perform essentially the same function as specialist positions used to do at Target.
