Archived false accusations

There's a ton of gossip at our store and apparently someone told hr that one of the team members was talking/dating to a team lead that they report to. If it isn't true or have proof to justify such accusations except hear say why would anything need to be done to those people ? It doesn't seem fair and I don't want to see my friend get into trouble for something so foolish that was said
 
Like HLM said, it's better not to get involved when shit's going down. We had a similar situation at my store recently which resulted in a break-up, a workcenter change, and a firing.
